The Insider - Volume 10

Brewery News, Nail Bar, Festival on the River

Here's the latest

One brewery is closing while two breweries are in the works in Manchester.Twisted Ales will shut down indefinitely about a week from today.  As Bizsense reports in this article, the owner received a job offer out of state and will be relocating. The space is for sale along with all the brewing equipment so we’re curious to see what will happen. Meanwhile, Dogtown Brewing Co andManastoh Brewing are both in the works just down the street. Dogtown is much further along and their rooftop terrace boasts some impressive views of the city! Both seem to be incorporating more of a restaurant and brewery in one concept which is unique as most RVA breweries are BYO, order-in, or offer limited snack options.

As if your “Restaurants I Still Need to Try” list is not long enough, you can now add these 5 gas stations. That’s right, Richmond really is for food lovers. Richmond Times-Dispatch published this article which includes chili, fried chicken, and BBQ brisket sandwiches as a few notable items you can grab at gas stations in the area. Probably most impressive is Aw Shucks Country Store which features live music, craft beer on tap, and an outdoor patio. Part gas station, part carwash, and part community watering hole! Just don’t have too much fun and forget that you need to drive that car of yours home!

What exactly is Diner en Blanc? Last year was the first time this event came to Richmond and it’s returning on Saturday, July 7 for round two. Here’s a history recap: 30 years ago, a man named Francois Pasquier was returning to France after a trip abroad and told his friends to wear white so they could find each other in a park where they agreed to meet and dine al fresco. They had so much fun they decided to do it again the following year and it quickly grew into an event that now takes place globally, crazy right? If you’re curious about more details for Richmond’s Diner en Blanc (plus a bit more about the history) everything you need to know is here.

A non-toxic nail bar is coming to RVA and I can’t stop swooning over their nail art skillz! Holy Chic Nail Bar and Beauty Lounge opened their flagship location two years ago in Fredericksburg and they’re opening a second location here on West Main Street. Not only do they promote the importance of non-toxic nail care, they actively promote female empowerment. Also, when you make an appointment you can actually show up at that time and someone is waiting for you. This. Is. Not. A. Drill. Keep your eye on the Insta stories @therichmondexperience on Thursday evening for a sneak peek inside!

Text-to-911 service is now active in Richmond and the counties of Henrico and Chesterfield. Richmond Magazine reports more on this new safety feature. Also useful is CodeRED which is an emergency notification system for Richmond City. We care about your safety! 😊 Feel free to share more useful safety resources with us here which we can include in future guides.
