Richmond is known for a lot of things, and our thriving music scene is one of them. Here’s a list of local venues where you can catch live music and take in the best local Richmond artists and national acts.

Altria Theater

Nestled in the heart of The Fan and VCU’s campus is the Atria Theater. This historic concert venue seats over 3,000 people and has hosted top entertainers and Broadway productions during its 90 years in operation. You can catch concerts and shows from big-name acts year-round. Stay up to date with their events here.

River City Roll

 

This boutique bowling alley in Scott’s Addition is striking out in more ways than one. On top of offering lounge-style bowling lanes, a seasonal food menu, and mouth-watering cocktails, you can catch live music here too! Grab some friends and play a game while jamming out to the best of local Richmond music. Check out their calendar of events here.

Vagabond

Vagabond combines the best of Southern food, craft beer, and cocktails with live music. Travel back in time to their 1920’s inspired speakeasy tucked below the restaurant to hear jazz, R&B, and blues. See their full calendar of events here

Fuzzy Cactus

Looking to see a rock ‘n’ roll show? Musician-owned and operated bar and restaurant Fuzzy Cactus is just the place. This Northside hot spot serves up urban cowboy fare such as brined chicken sandwiches, quesadillas, and burritos,  tastefully made cocktails, and music by local Richmond rockers. The Camel

The Camel has been a long time spot for catching up and coming bands from Richmond and beyond. Don’t be fooled by the size — this full bar has packed in crowds of 250 people for sold-out shows while slinging drinks and serving food until close. Check out their calendar here

The Broadberry

The Broadberry has been home to local acts and beyond since 2018. As one of the larger venues around town, there’s plenty of room to dance while sipping on a cold one from their full bar. Check out their upcoming events here.

Canal Club

Canal Club is a no-frills entertainment venue and bar located inside a brick warehouse in Shockoe Bottom. They’ve been known to host acts ranging from DJs to metal bands. Check out their event line-up here.

The National

The National is a classic venue for catching live music in Richmond. Since its start in the early 1920s, this venue has hosted a multitude of musicians and even motion pictures back in the day. If you're looking to see national acts, this is the place for you. Stay up to date on their schedule here.

Richmond Music Hall & Capital Ale House

Providing the perfect combo of food and music, you can grab a bite to eat at Capital Ale House then mosey on over to the Richmond Music Hall, conveniently located inside the same building. This small venue hosts local and some national acts for more intimate concerts. Check out their calendar here.

Virginia Credit Union LIVE!

Virginia Credit Union LIVE! at Richmond Raceway offers covered seating for 6,000 attendees and has one of the best live music lineups year after year! In addition to general admission tickets, concert-goers can purchase an add-on pass for the VIP Bud Light Patio situated right beside the stage with a private cash bar. And perhaps the best part of this venue is the fact that they offer permanent restrooms despite being an outdoor arena. Parking is $10 cash only but, heads up, Virginia Credit Union members can show their Debit or Credit card to receive free parking! See their calendar here

Innsbrook After Hours

Innsbrook Pavilion is the perfect summer spot to catch a live concert outdoors. This 6,500 capacity venue has hosted major acts from Hall & Oates to Nelly and beyond. Check out weekly Wednesday shows from 5 - 9 pm featuring local groups and musicians this summer. See their calendar here.

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

This staple brewery and taproom has recently revamped their Richmond site by adding a full stage for local musicians, as well as a larger patio with plenty of space to spread out and sip on your favorite Hardywood brew while hearing some local tunes. Check out their calendar here.

Gallery5

Located in the heart of Jackson Ward is Gallery5, a visual and performing arts center. This venue showcases unconventional local and national acts, centered on being a platform for new and creative outlets. See their calendar of events here

The Hof Garden

This three-story restaurant, rooftop, and event space has multiple rooms and space dedicated to live music. The Loft features a full bar with a stage and ample space for hosting local bands and weekly resident artists. The Dark Room is a cozier setting for intimate shows,  slam poetry, and comedy nights. Last but not least, you can catch a show on the rooftop with a view of the city and a full bar. Check out their website for updates on regularly scheduled shows.

Mainline Brewery

Just down the road from Hardywood is Mainline Brewery, a newer brewery to Richmond’s booming beer district that is  quickly leaving an imprint on the local music scene. This indoor/outdoor brewery features a large stage outside and a smaller stage inside for rainy days with plenty of standing and sitting room. Brambly Park Winery

This urban winery located in Scott’s Addition has become a weekend destination for live music. Sitting on two acres of land, there’s plenty of space and tables to enjoy wine, beer, cocktails, and food while taking in some local music. Check here to see events posted regularly.
