13 of the most dog-friendly patios in Richmond

We’re often asked which patios around the city allow four-legged friends, so we pulled together this list to keep in your back pocket.

Bring the pup(s) along the next time you head out to one of these spots around the city for a bite or a drink!

Ruff Canine Club

Okay, this one’s a given. The social club is part bar, part dog park, and a whole lot of fluffy fun. There are local brews, tasty menu items — for you and the pups — and dogs running all over the place. If you want to bring your own good boy or girl, you’ll have to purchase a membership or daily guest pass, but pet-free folks are welcome to pull up a chair, order something from the kitchen, and enjoy watching club members’ four-legged friends romp around.

Something to note: Expect the attending doggos to approach your party for some sniffs, licks, and pats (as doggos do). If you’re not comfortable with pups getting up close and personal, any of the other options on this list are great alternatives.

Location: 1924 Ellen Rd (Scott’s Addition)

Strangeways Brewing

Both Strangeways Brewing locations in Richmond are dog-friendly! At the Dabney Rd location, you’ll find an outdoor biergarten where you can enjoy the weather, grab a bite to eat from the ever-rotating food trucks on-site, relax with pooches, or play some cornhole. And at the Scott’s Addition location, the outdoor biergarten is a great spot to settle in with Fido and grab a bite from the on-site kitchen.

Location: 2227A Dabney Rd (Libbie Mill); 3110 W Leigh St (Scott's Addition)

Brambly Park

Brambly Park is situated on almost two acres in the northwest corner of Scott’s Addition and surrounded by wild growing bramble bushes. It’s home to an urban winery, a full-service restaurant, and a park. It’s dog- and family-friendly and filled with games, music, great food, and drinks.

Check out their food menu here and their drink menu here before heading over!

Legend Brewing Company

Legend Brewing Company is legendary (sorry, I had to) for their 200-seat deck and their small beer garden, both overlooking the beautiful James River and both welcoming of furry friends.

Their pub serves a full menu including some of Richmond's finest burgers and sandwiches and, of course, the full line of Legend beers.

Location: 321 W 7th St (Manchester)

Main Line Brewery

This newcomer to Richmond’s brewery scene has ample outdoor space for pets and their parents to enjoy craft beer (and often live music and food truck fare).

Oak & Apple BBQ

Palani Drive

This Westhampton spot was founded back in August 1998. Fun fact: It was inspired by the spirit of the Big Island of Hawaii and the Ironman triathlon, whose finish line is on Palani Road in Kailua-Kona!

They’re open daily for both lunch and dinner (with a daily happy hour from 4 - 8 pm that is an absolute steal), and they’re welcoming of pups on their cozy patio.

Location: 401 Libbie Ave, #1 (Westhampton)

Hours: Found here

Pizza & Beer of Richmond

As the name implies, this is a great spot for both pizza and beer — but it’s also an awesome place to bring your dog(s), given its expansive patio!

Location: 2553 W Cary St (Carytown) | 9325 Chamberlayne Rd (Mechanicsville)

Hours: Found here and here

Tabol Brewing

There’s a reason this Northside brewery has shirts that say “Big Deck Energy,” y’all. Their deck is, indeed, huge and has plenty of space for dogs to hang out with their parents — and don’t tell them we told you, but the taproom is dog-friendly, too.

Be sure to order some pizza to go with your pints while you’re there. Their pies are amazing!

Location: 704 Dawn St (Northside)

Hours: Found here

Union Market

You and your pup can swing by Union Market for just about any meal of the day, whether you’re just looking to grab a cup of coffee, you want to stick around for a full meal, or you need to pick up a couple of groceries (cough, bottles of wine, cough) on your way home.

And you know what? If you’re really more of a cat person, that works, too.

Location: 2306 Jefferson Ave (Union Hill)

Hours: Found here
