Spending more time at home has us on the hunt for new plants and florals to spruce up our indoor and outdoor spaces. From gorgeous house plants to add to your new home office to stunning outdoor plants for your backyard oasis, this guide is a great place to start on your journey to plant parenthood.

Whether you’re looking for tiny terrariums or tall trees and shrubs, here’s where you can find the best new plants and flowers in the Richmond area.

The Great Big Greenhouse and Nursery

Listen, they don’t call it the “Great Big” Greenhouse for nothing! This huge nursery has absolutely everything you could need to create the perfect indoor or outdoor garden. Check out their year-round Farmers Market before stocking up in the garden center.

Plantbar

A visit to Plantbar will make you feel like you’ve died and gone to houseplant heaven. They have so many options with great plants for beginner or master gardeners. Don’t miss their collection of beautiful ceramic planters – they have something to fit any home aesthetic. Grab a few friends and try out their DIY Terrarium Workshop!

Azalea Garden Center

Local and family-owned, Azalea Garden Center provides a variety of plants, gardening tools, and garden expertise. Their selection changes seasonally, so make sure to visit often to prepare for the changing seasons.  Take a trip to Northside to pick up some gorgeous new plants and supplies!

Nicola Flora

If you’re looking for a plant or floral arrangement that’s unique to you, Nicola Flora is your place. In addition to fresh flowers and houseplants, they craft customized arrangements and wreaths using fresh and dried florals, tropical plants, and seasonal selections for any occasion.

Location: 1219 Bellevue Ave (Bellevue)

River City Flower Exchange

River City Flower Exchange is a group of local growers and designers who operate the only wholesale flower market in the Richmond area. Their growers provide local flowers that can be made into unique DIY arrangements for weddings, events, or businesses.

Visit their Passes page to see their options for shopping the Exchange and make a plan to visit them when they reopen in the spring!

Hours: River City Flower Exchange is now closed for the season and will reopen in the spring.

Vogue Flowers has FOUR locations in the Richmond area making it a super convenient destination for your floral needs. If you can’t make it to any of their four locations, they also offer delivery services for their flowers and arrangements!

Christopher Flowers

The next time you’re in Carytown, be on the lookout for Christopher Flower’s gorgeous plant stand outside of Can Can Brasserie. They offer fresh flowers daily at their plant stand, but also take custom orders for special occasions. Stop by and say hello to Christopher himself – a Richmond native who’s spent his entire life in the floral industry!

Who doesn’t love getting flowers? Pat’s Florist has an amazing selection of pre-made and custom floral arrangements for every holiday or occasion – even if the occasion is just to treat yo’ self.

Sneed’s Nursery

Sneed’s Nursery has been a Richmond favorite since they opened their doors in 1933. Over the years, Sneed’s has become a local destination for indoor and outdoor plants, gifts, floral arrangements, and landscape design. Exploring the nursery is part of the fun and feels like you’ve escaped to a charming English garden. With an extensive selection and experienced staff, Sneed’s Nursery is a great go-to spot for all of your plant needs.

Strawberry Fields Flowers and Finds

Strawberry Fields Flowers and Finds creates some of the most stunning floral arrangements I’ve ever seen. Their adorable shop is tucked away on Strawberry Street in The Fan and offers local goods, handmade items, and gifts in addition to plants and flowers. Their knowledgeable team will bring your floral vision to life for any occasion or event. If you’d like to try your hand at creating your own floral creation, they also offer a variety of workshops (with virtual options!) that can be found here.

Cross Creek Nursery and Landscaping just celebrated their 46th year of serving the Richmond area! This newly opened black-owned shop in Church Hill is a self-proclaimed “adorable urban plant boutique” intent on making Richmond greener and brighter, one plant at a time. Stop by to browse plant babies of all shapes and sizes with the help of owner Necole!
