Things We're Way Loving Right Now: March 2025

BY THE RVAX TEAM

We started this series in our Weekly Insider (Edition 204, if you’re feeling nostalgic), and we ~way~ love it so much, we thought it deserved its own spot on our City Guides page. Think of it like a Richmond-y LIKEtoKNOW.it kinda thing.

Richmond in Bloom

I’m definitely a fall girlie, but there’s something magical about spring in Richmond. Even with seasonal allergies, I’ll happily suffer to enjoy the flowers. My top spots:

  • Agecroft Hall & Gardens — Their sunken garden, with over 5,000 tulips, is the highlight of my spring. As of March 19, peak bloom is expected in about two to three weeks.

  • Presidents Circle at Hollywood Cemetery — If you’ve seen photos or videos of the cherry blossoms here, you already know how breathtaking it is. If not, trust me, it’s worth the visit.

We’ve got a full city guide and Reel that covers everything, so get out there and explore!

The LGBTQ+ Travel Guide

If you caught Episode 36 of The Chatter, you heard us chat with author Alicia Valenski — former RVAx managing editor and media director! Alicia wrote The LGBTQ+ Travel Guide, a stunning collection of interviews, itineraries, and insider tips on 50+ Proud places.

She even interviewed me (!!) to share my favorite Richmond spots as a queer destination. I’m still so honored! Richmond has embraced me in ways I never expected, allowing me to be my most authentic self. Getting to share that story — and highlight some of my favorite local staples — was incredibly special.

Alicia and I will be chatting about the book at Fountain Bookstore on Thursday, April 10, at 6 pm (deets here), so save the date and come hang!

Music, Rhymes & Wiggle Time at Libbie Mill Library

While I’m living outside of Richmond City these days, Libbie Mill Library still has the best storytime seshes in town, if you ask me. One of my fam’s long-time favorites is Music, Rhymes & Wiggle Time (with Mr. Chris or Ms. Shelby!). We’ve been hunkered down inside for most of the winter, but now that it’s spring, everybody’s more excited to get out and about, so we’ve added it to our routine again.

The library hosts Music, Rhymes & Wiggle Time multiple times a week, but if you can’t make it Monday through Friday, the spot (and other RPLs) also has storytime options on the weekends. Each one is a great way to get the kiddos up and moving for a bit before the afternoon hits; along with a story, the librarians include some guitar-playing or boombox tunes, bubbles, and interactive games. When you’re done, enjoy the weather out on Libbie Mill Midtown’s huge patio, complete with fountain views.

Abstract Art by Sarah E. Morrison

I’ve got a lot of white space on my walls that I’m looking to fill with Big Art, but I don’t want to rush that process. Lucky (?) for me, the algorithm keeps me updated with lots of local artists and creators who make the prettiest contenders for taking up that prime real estate.

Richmond abstract artist Sarah E. Morrison is someone I’ve come across on Instagram recently, and her pieces are so colorful, yet so soft, and I love each one. Olympia (pictured above) is one of my current faves, but she has so many beautiful floral and nature pieces, it’s almost impossible to pick just one that stands out as framed perfection.

You can shop her current works through Rennie Art Company (delivering a concierge art service to Richmond and beyond), or, if you see something on her Instagram page that you like, you can send her a DM and ask about it!
