THE LATEST:
FOOD + DRINK NEWS
A new rock and roll bar, venue, and restaurant is opening soon on Brookland Park Boulevard! Fuzzy Cactus describes their menu as "urban cowboy fare" with reasonably priced beers and cocktails. Expect to see lots of local acts playing here along with touring musicians. This Sunday they will open for their second soft opening with a dance party to follow and public hours 8pm-12am with DJ Area Woman and DJ Aaron Bushman. Go check it out at 221 W Brookland Park Boulevard!
What's your favorite taco in Richmond? Well, it's time to add another place to your list! The couple behind Maya on Grace St downtown is taking over the former Pasture spot to open a taco bar and baja grill. Not to be confused with the popular taco joint at Virginia Tech (Cabo Fish Taco), Cabo will focus on fish tacos and other basic Mexican dishes with the intent to focus on a bar crowd, according to this article by Karri Peifer at RTD News. We're pretty excited for this spot, it will be a great place to grab dinner and drinks before heading to a show!
There is nothing better than a nice wine or cider alongside a fully-stocked cheese board and now you can get the goods in Scott's Addition! Truckle Cheesemongers will be opening a brick and mortar inside Blue Bee Cider serving cheese, snacks, and sandwiches. Owner, Maggie Bradshaw, is incredibly sweet and super knowledgeable about cheese and pairings. Over the winter we participated in her monthly cheese share and it was such a treat! Get ready to step up your Fall cheese board game.
Indian fare paired with Latin spices is just what you'll find at The Bombay Company, a new tapas bar and restaurant that has opened in Rockett's Landing! To celebrate their opening week (through this Sunday) 100% of proceeds are being donated. Half will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charity and the other half to the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. We got a little peek at their menu which includes chicken tikki masala, empanadas, and a vegan cauliflower and potato dish with tomatoes, garlic and spices, and all of it sounded very good! If you go check it out, tag us and let us know what you think!

NATIONAL ATTENTION
Richmond made the Top 10 list in three categories in Business Facilities' 2019 Metro Ranking Reports (insert slow clap). According to their website, "...[this] report takes a look at the hot topics in economic development on the city level including job growth, economic growth potential, tech opportunities and more." Richmond ranked 4th for Economic Growth Potential in Mid-Size Cities behind Grand Rapids, MI., Madison WI., and Birmingham AL. Ranking 7th for cities that are Millennial Magnets, Business Facilities tracks the movement of individuals born between 1980 and 1998 (no wonder why there's been a beer boom here over the last five years). And lastly, Richmond ranked 2nd in Corporate HQ Leaders for Mid-Size Cities - we have seven - only trailing behind Irving, TX.
