Hey there! Alicia here 👋

As y’all likely know, summer officially starts this coming Monday, June 21. Funny enough, that also happens to be when Richmond temperatures are expected to rise and we’ll begin our humid, “it feels like it could thunderstorm at pretty much any moment” season as a city.

The remainder of this week, though, we're looking at low 80s and no rain — so, get outside and enjoy it while it lasts!

In the meantime, let’s talk about this week’s social news, such as…

  • Where and when you can commemorate Juneteenth this Saturday, from pop-up markets to cultural ceremonies to bar crawls and beyond

  • The top Father’s Day events happening around the city this Sunday to celebrate the dads in your life

  • Three different opportunities to bend for your booze this weekend — including two winery yoga flows and one brewery class

  • The newly opened plant-based restaurant in Southside that we’re currently drooling over and what to order there (hint: think Philadelphia)

…and more. Onward!

THE LATEST:

SOCIAL NEWS

In their own words, “The Broadberry is f***ing back.” The Museum District concert venue you know and love has returned for 2021 with a whopping 30 shows (!) on the calendar between now and the end of the year — including performances from fan favorites like No BS! Brass, Crumb, The Menzingers, Andy Frasco & The U.N., and more.

See the lineup (and get your tickets) here.

And you know what else is back? The Richmond Marathon. The marathon will take place once again in its traditional one-day, in-person format in downtown Richmond on November 13! If you register now, you've got about five more months to train.

You can now also register for either of the other two events happening the same day (the half marathon or the 8k race) — but we’d do so sooner than later, since there will be a price increase on July 1!

Plant-based and freakin’ delicious. New family-owned-and-operated biz Philly Vegan recently opened in Southside to, in their own words, “bridge the gap between plant-based and traditional food by putting a vegan twist on some old favorites.”

By “old favorites,” they mean mouthwatering menu items like Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, Philly Cheesesteak Fries, Philly Cheesesteak Sliders, and more — all of which are vegan but (we can confirm, having tasted ‘em!) you wouldn't know it from the taste. Find ‘em at 1126 Hull St, open Thursday - Saturday for the time being.

Will bend for booze (and views). Because who doesn’t love a yoga flow in a cool spot, followed by a refreshing adult beverage?

Lakeview Yoga with Mobile OM Wellness - Saturday, 10 am at Jolene Family Winery - $15 for the class

YogaSix Yoga & Mimosas Pop-Up - Saturday, 11 am at Bingo Beer Co. - $10 gets you the class + mimosa (or beer) afterward

Yoga Summer Sundays - Sunday, 9 am at Brambly Park Winery - $10 for the class

Don’t forget, Father’s Day is this Sunday! Aside from getting him something special (we pulled together the RVA FATHER’S DAY GIFT GUIDE to help you out), here are a few other things you could do with him this weekend:

One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer (Virtual) - Friday, 6 pm - Join Mise En Place for an online cooking class featuring dad-inspired recipes like beer dip, bacon-wrapped pork chops, and more - $25

6th Annual Dad's Day Pig Out - Sunday, 12 pm at Center of the Universe Brewing - Listen to a live bluegrass band, eat some BBQ, crack open a Center of the Universe beer or two, and play bingo every hour on the hour for the chance to win prizes - free admission

Keg N’ Oyster Fest - Sunday, 12 pm at Hardywood West Creek - Celebrate with fresh-shucked oysters and crabcakes from Rappahannock Oyster Co., beers from Hardywood, slices from River City Pizza, and dessert from Jiji Frozen Custard - free admission
