RICHMONDER TO KNOW
Rabia Kamara: Typically, we wouldn’t feature back-to-back foodie powerhouses (last week: Keya Wingfield), but we couldn’t help but dish on chef and owner Rabia Kamara of Ruby Scoops! Ruby premiered in Food Network’s Clash of the Cones on Monday night, a competition where six ice cream makers across the country compete to create a Ben & Jerry’s original flavor.
Rabia is a VCU alumnus and recently returned to Richmond from DC to open Ruby Scoops in Northside. While she’s been cooking professionally for about 10 years, her passion for cooking and baking began in her childhood.
Catch up on Clash of the Cones to cheer on Rabia and tune in every Monday at 9 pm on Food Network.

THE LATEST:
THIS WEEK
Got dinner plans tonight? Even if you do, you might want to ditch them in favor of an exciting pop-up coming out of Hatch Cafe in Manchester! Barbados Catering and The Penalty Box partnered to offer a set chef's menu featuring Venezuelan and Ecuadorian cuisine. Choose one starter, one main, and one dessert for just $40! You can dine in or take it home with two options at 5 pm or 6:30 pm. Place your order here.
Alternatively, you could opt for this duo. Cobra Burger teamed up with their buddies at The Veil Brewing to brew the Cobra Pale, Cobra Burger's house beer. Dubbed "a beer built for burgers," the Cobra Pale is only available on tap at the brewery or on-site at the restaurant. According to this Instagram post, the first batch was gone in a flash, but more is on the way!
Might as well keep this train going. Whatever you decide for dinner is your choice, but we'd top off the night with Nightingale Ice Cream's new Birthday Cake sandwich. It's vanilla ice cream swirled with vanilla cake pieces and rainbow sprinkles sandwiched between two brown sugar cookies. A portion of proceeds benefits Liberation Veteran Services, a local nonprofit providing support to homeless veterans in the Greater Richmond area.
Calling all fitness enthusiasts. Vasen Brewing is now rewarding their active and outdoors-y patrons with an Outdoor Adventure Card! Get a punch on your card every time you participate in their weekly fitness events, followed by a draft beer at the taproom! Workout, enjoy a craft beer (with $1 off), get a punch! Check out their weekly Run Club (Wednesdays 6 pm), Climbing Club (Sundays 4 pm at Peak Experiences ), or Mountain Bike Club (Sundays 10 am). When you earn 10 punches on your card, you can redeem it for merch or beer! Check out the full participation details here. Cheers!
August is Virginia Craft Beer Month. And to celebrate, Lunch. and Supper! is hosting a Beer Garden Beach Party with special guests, O'Connor Brewing Company, and Virago Spirits! The three collaborated to create light and refreshing beers and fun cocktails with a nod to summer. Lunch. and Supper! will be offering a special menu featuring Hawaiian food along with music and plenty of tropical vibes. The event is free to attend and dog-friendly.
This is your sign to take a food walking tour. Seriously, what are you waiting for?! Even as professional foodies ourselves, we still thoroughly enjoy the food walking tours by Discover Richmond, and they just added a Scott’s Addition food tour to their list! Grab your friends, take your family when they visit, or go with some coworkers that you haven’t seen in ages, and just do it already!
COMING SOON
The South of the James is returning this fall! Technically, it's been happening since May, but the current iteration takes place on Thursdays 4 - 7 pm making it a little challenging for some folks to get out there. Now for the good news! Beginning October 3, the GrowRVA farmers, artists, and vendors will be lining Forest Hill Park on Sundays! The Sunday South of the James will take place 10 am - 1 pm. Meanwhile, the RVA BIG Market will continue year round in Bryan Park on Saturdays. Follow Grow RVA on Facebook for more updates.
Rebelle Con 2021 tickets are live. This multi-day event series is designed to connect and energize women professionals and business owners to tackle the unique challenges we experience in work and life. The 2020 conference was virtual, so we are particularly excited for the conference this year! Rebelle Con features a stellar speaker line-up, live entertainment, community and networking opportunities, gift boxes full of women-owned brands, plus food, drinks, and overall good vibes. See the full schedule, speaker line-up (with more speakers still being added), and snag your ticket here.

Wine Stork
“Mommy, where does wine come from?” From The Wine Stork, of course!
Richmond’s new wine delivery service is “dropping bottles in your crib,” aka delivering wine to your doorstep.
The process is pretty straightforward — just grab your digital device of choice, choose your favorite bottles from Wine Stork's carefully curated line-up, and await the arrival of your little bundle of joy on your doorstep.
You can check out their selection here. (Is it weird that the Canned section is my go-to? Either way, it is.)
