RICHMONDER(S) TO KNOW

Anthony Meñez and Josh Bishop: The friends behind the Richmond Zombie Walk, an annual charity walk through Carytown benefiting the American Cancer Society wherein attendees dress up as zombies, soon-to-be zombies, and on occasion, zombie hunters.

You can find details about this year’s 16th annual Richmond Zombie Walk happening on Saturday, October 30 here.

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including the new sports bar and rooftop concept now officially open in the Arts District, the family-friendly (and not at all spooky) harvest-inspired festival happening this weekend in Lakeside, a next-level bakery-slash-restaurant concept now open in Westhampton that is almost guaranteed to soon have lines winding around the block, and more.

THE LATEST:

THIS WEEK

Ready to celebrate the fall season? HarvestFest returns to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden this weekend to help you do precisely that! In addition to an opportunity to see fall foliage and florals in their autumnal glory, this two-day festival happening all day Saturday and Sunday will feature live music, food, and adult beverages, plus family-friendly activities like a pumpkin carving artist, “scary” storytime, drop-in gardening lessons, fairy house building, and more. The festival will take place this Saturday, October 23 from 9 am - 8 pm and Sunday, October 24 from 9 am - 5 pm. Entry to the festival is included with regular Garden admission — simply walk in and purchase tickets at the admissions desks!

A new sports bar and rooftop in the Arts District. Richmond’s newest rooftop spot, Sonora, closed its doors in August for a total redesign of its concept, interior, and menu. Fast forward two months and Sonora has officially reopened as Sonora Rooftop & Sports Bar!

They’ve added a whopping 15 screens on which to watch your favorite NFL teams (and other leagues as we move out of football season, of course) go head to head on Sundays while you enjoy all-day brunch, elevated game-day bites, beer and tequila shot buckets, and more.

Those who aren’t into sports will still find plenty to enjoy on the rooftop, like delicious tacos, burritos, fajitas, margaritas, and more. And don’t forget to check out their Friday happy hour deals!

So much more than just cake (but also, CAKE!) Cameo Cakery & Cafe just recently opened in the Westhampton area at 306 Libbie Ave with an absolutely massive menu of epicurean delights.

Yes, you can place an order for one of the delicious and beautiful cakes you’ve seen all over their Instagram, but you can also visit for anything from cheese and charcuterie boards to sweet and savory cakes to draft beer and wine by the bottle and so much more. They have a whole selection of flights to choose from, too, from beer and wine flights to "sparkler refresher" flights and coming soon, mimosa and coffee flights.

We’ll be sharing about our visit on our TikTok and Instagram Reels soon, but as members, we’re giving you a sneak peek here in the Weekly Insider so you have a chance to go check this spot out before it explodes in popularity and lines end up around the block. Yes, it’s that good!

Guess who’s back? After a pandemic pause, the Richmond Home Show is returning! This year's show will be held at the Richmond Raceway Complex Friday, October 22 through Sunday, October 24 featuring RVA-area home improvement professionals, from kitchen and bath to gardening and landscape and everything in between.

This is THE event where homeowners can get answers to all of their home improvement questions on the spot (like how to navigate supply shortages, design advice, new product discovery, and more)!

As we approach a new year, and with many spending more time in their home, now is the perfect time to give your home a refresh or tackle your next home improvement project — and the Richmond Home Show presents the ideal venue to connect with knowledgeable local home remodeling, design, and construction professionals who can help you get started! More details here.

What’s new at The Dome. If you’re not familiar, The Dome at the Science Museum of Virginia is the largest screen in VA at a whopping 76 feet. The massive display is an awesome option for an immersive experience, and the SMV has just announced two new shows that will be playing at The Dome this season:

  • Birth of Planet Earth: Going back billions of years to the Milky Way galaxy, this planetarium show employs advanced data-driven, cinematic-quality visualizations to explore some of the biggest questions in science today: How did we become a living planet, and what does history tell us about finding other life in the universe among a billion other Earth-size planets scientists believe exist today? (Now playing at 1 pm Tuesday through Friday, and at noon on Saturday and Sunday)

  • Antarctica: With never-before seen footage, Antarctica brings audiences to the farthest reaches of this wild and majestic continent. It is the coldest, driest and windiest place on Earth and yet weird and wonderful creatures thrive here in astounding abundance. (Opening to the public on Thursday, November 11)

Of course, this is in addition to all the other stuff already happening at the SMV, including exhibits like Boost!, experiences like Animal Lab, and fun events like Spooky Science (October 30 - 31), Rat Basketball (through December 31), and more. Admission details here.
