Happy Wednesday!
Unlike lots of men (apparently… ?), it’s not ancient Rome we can’t stop thinking about; it’s fall. And, friends and family, I’m happy to tell you it’s now just days away!
Unpack your fuzzy socks and lean into the pumpkin of it all. The reds, oranges, and yellows are set to peak between October 10 and 31, so take a look at our favorite places to see fall foliage and get in the spirit. After months of sweat, sweat, and sweat, our cool-down is finally here!
Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including baked goods on Mondays, a CBD rec, political convos, and more.

SOCIAL NEWS
When one door closes: If you’re an avid spicy-foods eater, your eyes will turn into little cartoon hearts when you first walk by Nile in Church Hill. Zero in on the Doro Dulet when you peep the menu, or treat yourself to other fan favorites, like the Ayib Takel and the Atkil. But whatever you choose, make sure the spot is on your restaurant rotation soon. Very unfortunately, the Ethiopian bistro is closing its doors come January. The special announcement came over the weekend, but the good news is there’s hope for a revamp in the future, as the spot is “moving into a new business model we have dreamt of doing for many years now. More on that later.” We’ll be following along and can’t wait to see what’s next! (Nile)
All the rumors are true: We’ll be fixing our sea-salt bagel hankering even more now. Nate’s Bagels is getting another location in Scott’s Addition! As Richmond BizSense recently reported, the owner of Nate’s (Nate Mathews) and his wife bought a space at 1219 Highpoint Ave. At the time, they weren’t quite sure what they wanted to do with the opportunity, but now the bagel spot has confirmed that a second location is underway. Keep your eyes trained on social media for planning and construction plans. (Instagram)
One way to care for your mental (and overall!) health: If you’re anything like us, life can be a little much sometimes. Between Beyoncé’s detailed wellness routine going around and this summer having us 🎶 been down, been up, been broke, broke down, bounced back, been off, been on, been back 🎶 we could use an assist getting ~COZY~ with ourselves again as the seasons change. A little self-care ought to help balance things out, and VA Harvest — a local CBD biz that uses Virginia-grown hemp to produce clean and pure products free of THC and harmful chemicals — has just the stuff. More and more, folks are choosing CBD as a natural alternative to help with pain, muscle soreness, nausea, anxiety, and then some. If you’re looking to dabble, you’ve got our rec! (VA Harvest)
Teamwork makes the dream work: The Richmond Flying Squirrels ended their regular season with the highest total and average attendance in all of Double-A baseball — a whopping 428,541 fans! This earned the team the title of Double-A Attendance Champions. Now in the midst of playoffs, the Richmond Flying Squirrels are working on clinching the title of Eastern League Champions. And speaking of the Squirrels, we caught a game toward the end of the summer and discovered the Latched Mama Nursing Nest. Did you know about this? The org really has us going nuts in more ways than one. Go Squirrels! (Instagram)
Rock the vote: Early voting in Virginia starts this Friday, September 22, and one ballot issue that’s on Richmonders’ minds is the impending casino. RVA Mag hit the streets to ask folks who are against the project to expand on their thoughts. The potential of long-term issues for casino goers and uptick in drugs and crime were among the reasons polled voters aren’t into the idea. (RVA Mag)
Closing the gap: One Small Step is a program from StoryCorps that has an anchor community in RVA, where the org brings together folks with different political views to record 50-minute convos — not debating politics, but learning about one another. Each interview is recorded and archived at the Library of Congress. One Small Step will record its Richmonder conversations at the Library of Virginia starting October 2. (RVAHub)
