RICHMONDER TO KNOW

Genia Rosenblum: ‘Tis (almost) the season for gifting, and over here, we *especially* love shopping all things local. The artist behind MADE handmakes some of our fave gift-worthy options — modern and playful ceramics for your blooms, beverages, and more. Her pieces feature bright patterns, fun textures, and even “itty-bitty handles.” If you’re not already a certified plant person or coffee drinker, her collection will have you becoming one (or both), simply to justify the insatiable need to shop all her pieces. Snag some of her stuff at Craft + Design this weekend!

SOCIAL NEWS

Pour one out: Into your pint glass; there’s a new brewery in town! WayGone Brewery opened its doors over the weekend, and the spot is the region’s 46th brewery (and the first in western Henrico)! Stop in for cold ones like Cloudy Dreamz IPA (New England), Kveik And Easy IPA (New England), Bombastic IPA (West Coast), Afterthought Hoppy Lager, Cabin Branch Stout (American), Here We Gose (Raspberry & Lime Sour, Traditional Gose), and Tree Huggin’ IPA (New England). (Richmond BizSense)

Get out and about: Take a road-trip about three hours to our left, and you’ll find the Top Adventure Town in the Large Towns Category of the 2023 Top Adventure Towns Contest by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine. Or as her friends call her: Roanoke! The city is the largest on the Appalachian Trail and boasts more than 1,000 miles of trails, acres on acres of national forest, and scenic rivers and lakes. (Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge)

Santa Claus is comin’ to town: And he’s making a pitstop at The Boathouse. Starting on Sunday, December 3, you can book some time with the man with the bag over pancakes (and such) at The Boathouse at Sunday Park in Midlo. Reservations are required; adult tix cost $40, kid tix (for ages 3 - 12) cost $23, and bbs age 2 and under get in free! (The Boathouse)

A royal bummer: Castleburg Brewery & Taproom is closing its doors next month. The neighbor to Hardywood Park Craft Brewery has been in the area for eight years, but the cost of real estate and brewing are hitting hard, and owner Karl Homburg decided it was time to move on. “He said he was set to renew Castleburg’s lease at the end of the year when he got a notice that his rent would be going up 80 percent.” (Richmond BizSense)

Plans for your next Taco Any-day: Sincero announced its Hatch Local Food Hall closing earlier this year, but the spot soon thereafter announced it’d be opening its own brick and mortar at 404 N 2nd St. And now opening day has finally come! Enjoy the restaurant’s menu of $5 tacos (discounted during happy hour!), festive drinks, and  more. (Instagram)

On holiday: If you’re making travel plans to DC for the holidays, consider letting Amtrak take the wheel. Tickets from Richmond to DC for trips between December 4 and March 15 are as low as nine bucks! But act fast — this winter sale ends today, November 15. (Instagram)

Head to Carytown ASAP: Dumpling & Noodle Cart has taken its food truck ops to a brick-and-mortar set-up. The restaurant now (also) lives in Carytown, serving up two types of fried dumplings: chicken or pork; two types of cold noodles: sesame and sweet sour spicy; two types of hot steamed buns: pork and veggie; and chicken soup.
