Happy 2024!
Sorry we missed you last week! We had Ed 288 on the schedj for Wednesday (but of course!), and then suddenly, there was temperature-taking and urgent-care-visiting and all the other “fun” stuff that seems to come right after everybody’s done rockin’ around that damn tree!
But we’re PSYCHED to see you this week and can’t wait to dive into what’s going on in the River City. Let’s get right into it, because the Weekly Giveaway “how to enter” is about your New Year’s resolution, and we still need ideas over here.
Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including a coffee-buying law, a new Hatch Local Food Hall res, a farmhouse-style brewery, and more.

SOCIAL NEWS
Farewell after 18 years: Nile is joining Hatch Local Food Hall! The beloved Ethiopian restaurant in Church Hill announced its plans for closing toward the end of last year, and its final day of service will be this Sunday, January 7 (fittingly, the spot’s 18th anniversary). But dry your tears! You can sign up for the Nile’s newsletter here to stay tuned for their product launch, catering services and menus, and special events. (Nile Kitchen)
Also on the horizon: Another concept from Lindsey Food Group. Chef Mike Lindsey and his team plan to open The Foundation at the end of the month (or at the start of February) and offer small plates, cocktails, and live entertainment. (Instagram)
Don’t forget your brew when you’re near the zoo: Hidden Wit Brewing Co. recently opened in Moseley. The spot, just past the Richmond Metro Zoo, features an upscale farmhouse-style setting and 10,000 square feet of space for its taproom (with 18 beers on tap), dining room, full kitchen, event space and back patio. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
If you’re feeling a little Swift-Kelce fatigue: Richmond Times-Dispatch has 12 other sports plot lines to follow this year. The pub’s staff are keeping their eyes peeled for new ballpark updates, the James Madison University men’s basketball team March Madness happenings, and the inevitably fancy footwork of the new Richmond Kickers’ W League team this summer — among many others. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
A 144-hour plant-powered event: Vegan Action’s seventh annual Vegan Food and Drink Week is coming back to town this month. From January 23 through January 28, enjoy endless vegan options — visit five restaurants and you’ll get a free treat from Ruby Scoops, btw — and a special-edition Carrot Ginger Kombucha from Ninja Kombucha. What’s more a-maize-ing? Proceeds from the event benefit Food Not Bombs and RVA Community Fridges. (Instagram)
