FOOD + DRINK NEWS

Grisette is so close to opening. Like really, really close. But it seems they are having a tough time getting past the final permitting process so it may be a few more weeks. Located on the corner of 32nd St and Marshall St in Church Hill (across from Alewife), owners, Donnie and Megan Glass, have repeatedly said their goal is to make a really great restaurant on the hill that is reasonably priced. Their menu hasn't been published on their website or social channels yet so we'll have to wait to see what that looks like. Though, they popped up last weekend at Canon & Draw and as always their spread looked amazing. Keep an eye on their social for opening announcements soon.

The former owner of Mama Cucina
is opening The Angry Mussels in Shockoe Bottom where Kitchen On Cary used to be (next to Sine Irish Pub). They'll serve huge portions of Italian food, count us in for that! And in case you don't want to wait for your pasta fix, we've got a giveaway below for the OG pasta spot in Richmond. The Angry Mussels should open sometime this Fall. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Little Saint was no match for Devil's Triangle, closing down and selling at the end of last month according to this article. It won't stay vacant long though as it sounds like Uptown Market and Deli is trading takeout for a full service restaurant. Izzy's Kitchen will continue to serve some Uptown Deli sandwiches along with appetizers, entrees, wine, beer, and cocktails. This will be the third restaurant to occupy the space over the last five years, will it last? Izzy's Kitchen should open in a few months. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

HAPPENINGS

Dog friendly, shopping, and cider samples is just what you'll find this Saturday at Stony Point Fashion Park for Cider Under the Stars. Sample nine local and regional ciders along with Truly Hard Seltzer, Chesapeake Bay Distillery, and Vinter's Cellar Winery and Restaurant of Yorktown. Tickets start at $25 and the event runs from 5pm to 9pm. Grab fido and your shopping buddy and enjoy!

The Carytown Watermelon Festival takes place this Sunday! In its 36th year, the festival shuts down Cary St for several blocks and features live music, entertainment, art, local vendors, a kid zone, and of course plenty of juicy watermelon! Historically it's been super hot for the festival and this year should be no different so slather on some sunscreen, grab the fam, and head out for some fun. PS: If you are over the age of 21 and enjoy libations, seek out a watermelon shooter. :)

NEW TO TOWN

You can have breakfast and lunch at Supper, and breakfast and dinner at Lunch, but did you know you can have dinner at Brunch? The popular breakfast spot in the Fan is no stranger to a wait during the first half of the day (totally worth it) and now they are ramping up their dinner menu. As with their sister restaurants, Brunch has a menu for all hours and their new dinner dishes are not to be missed. We recently visited (peep that here) to sample some items and each round was better than the next. Here's our tip: go now and often because it seems like their dinner hasn't gone on a wait, yet. Bon appetit!

FUN FACT: Soft serve ice cream is now available at North End Gelato and Charm School! Both spots offer dairy and vegan options with flavors that go far beyond the standard chocolate, vanilla, and swirl. Go get a cone and tag us!
