SOCIAL NEWS

Get a little creative in the kitchen with Richmond Mag’s pantry raid. Local restaurateurs and food lovers share unique yet easy recipes you can probably pull together from whatever is hanging out in your pantry these days (yes, that even includes ramen). Whip up everything from a homemade cocktail to black bean soup to peanut butter cookies and more! If you feel like your culinary skills could use a boost, check out Perch chef/owner, Mike Ledesma, on IGTV. He’s got more than a handful of cooking demos. While we’re on the topic of your pantry and cooking, don’t forget that most Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits come in on the first of the month and there will be a surge as these families redeem them. If you can, wait a few days to make your next grocery run. Don’t forget to share your creations on social media; otherwise it didn’t really happen, right?

Remember when we shared about a new pizza place coming to Scott’s Addition? Well, they are open, sort of!  Perkinsinis Pizzeria is hosting pizza pop-ups with proceeds going to The Holli Fund, a local nonprofit that provides emergency assistance to foodservice industry workers in crisis. The schedule is sporadic and requires that you order ahead by a day or so with curbside pickup at 2930 C W. Broad (facing Altamont). Keep an eye on their social for updates! Meanwhile, River City Roll has curbside pizza (and cocktail) kits from 12pm-7pm daily, plus $1 from every order goes to Core Gives, a national nonprofit supporting children of restaurant employees. Oh, and you get one free roll of toilet paper for every $25 you spend (not joking).

Easter is approaching, and a few local businesses are offering Easter baskets for kids and adults!  Hardywood has a limited number of Richmond Lager Easter buckets and Suncrush Easter buckets, each with approximately 60 candy and toy-filled plastic eggs, a six-pack of either the Richmond Lager or Suncrush beer, and a 32oz growler of Francie’s Lemonade! Everything is packaged in a cute bucket and delivered straight to your door!  AR Workshop has an Easter DIY project kit with four projects, including block signs, a wood sign, and a canvas pillow cover. All supplies and instructions are included! Also, Scout & Molly’s partnered with MOSAIC to do a drive-thru Easter basket giveaway (free) with some goodies. Keep an eye on their Instagram for details!

I don’t know about you, but my phone has never been so full of pet photos, and the timing couldn’t be better!  Top Dog & Top Cat RVA photo contest returns to highlight the cutest pets in Richmond and beyond. The winning pets (one dog and one cat) get a full-page feature in Richmond Mag’s Spring/Summer 2020 Pet Guide. Entries are open through April 3, and the cost is $30 to enter. $5 from every entry will be donated to Richmond Animal League (RAL).

Joe Exotic and the Big Cat Rescue is coming to Innsbrook AH on July 25!  Get your tickets here. Meanwhile, Friday Cheers, which would have kicked off on May 1, has canceled or rescheduled shows, some as late as August 26.  See their announcement here

HYPE (Helping Young Professionals Engage) is offering free virtual events open to all young professionals (YPs) in the Richmond region! If you’re not familiar with HYPE, their goal is to develop talent and strengthen the YP culture in RVA through events and programming designed to help empower and ignite the passions of Richmond’s future decision-makers. HYPE, an program through our local Chamber of Commerce, aims to connect and engage YPs to develop individual, business, and community success for a vibrant RVA. We’ve attended a number of their events and always find them to be informative and fun, plus we’ve met some great folks in this network. Check out their calendar of events here.

Feeling a little sick? Apple launched a COVID-19 screening app and website. With a screening tool, users answer a few questions about symptoms, travel, and contact you’ve had with others to help determine what your next steps should be including contacting your healthcare providers, isolating from others, obtaining a test, etc. *Bookmarks in case of emergency*

A local volunteer group to make and supply face masks has mobilized on Facebook. You can volunteer to sew masks, deliver them, and of course place a request for masks. Check it out here.

Weekly Giveaway

Reginald’s Homemade

four-pack of assorted flavors, the “sweet pack”

We’ve been on a serious peanut butter snacking kick over here, so this week the giveaway is our favorite local nut butter! We stumbled across Reginald’s at the South of the James Farmers market, and we’ve been hooked ever since. With flavors like apple cinnamon (applesin), double chocolate chunk, nana honey (with bananas and honey), and wedding pretzel crunch you can totally mix up your snacking game! In addition to their peanut butter, Reginald’s also makes cashew butter.

TO ENTER: Tell us your favorite way to eat peanut butter. Sean loves a good pb&j sandwich and I personally crave apples and peanut butter — YUM! One lucky winner will get a four-pack of Apple Sin Peanut Butter, Nana Honey Peanut Butter, Double Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter, and White Chocolate Macadamia Peanut Butter.

Last week: Congratulations to Bonnie G. for being our giveaway winner of the week! Enjoy sipping on Lamplighter Coffee from your kitchen, or living room.

L & M Company

Stay home in style, and comfort, with locally made L & M Company leggings! Choose from their Original Staple, Signature Comfort, or Get Active. Three leggings designed for three uses. I own the Original Staple in black and two Signature Comforts, in black and coral. The Original Staple gives me a great shape, and the sleek material lends itself well for dressing it up, so it’s easy to go from day to night. Meanwhile, I live in the Signature Comfort at home, and they are so soft and buttery! Plus, both leggings avoid the dreaded see-through problem many leggings can have. After well over a year of daily/weekly wear, they are still in great shape!
