Where to Donate Clothing & Items This Holiday Season
UPDATED BY THE RVAX TEAM
‘Tis the season of joy and giving, and what better way to get a little joy than by giving back? If you’re looking to pass down some toys your kids don’t play with anymore or some coats and clothing they’ve outgrown (or if you’re really in the spirit and want to donate new options), RVA has plenty of places to drop them off. So, this season, let’s clear some space (in your closets or wallets!), make some donations, and spread some cheer.
A Place of Miracles
A Place of Miracles runs a cafe to feed hot meals to folks each week, and the org provides take-home groceries and clothes to families and individuals, too. Its own Clothes Cottage accepts clothes and other items, which are then provided, for free, to those in need.
Little Hands Virginia
Little Hands Virginia is the only nonprofit of its kind in Central Virginia, providing essentials to children three years old and younger. They accept new and gently-used baby and toddler items for the 1,500+ children they support each year.
Junior League of Richmond
Junior League of Richmond is a group of women looking to “advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.” The org’s store, The Clothes Rack, is its top fundraiser, providing “new and nearly new merchandise at affordable prices to the community.”
Puritan Cleaners
The DL from Puritan Cleaners itself: “While we need all warm coats, we especially need kids’ coats. Our team at Puritan Cleaners will clean and repair each donated coat before delivering it to the Salvation Army to be distributed to local families in need.”

Caring Closet
Caring Closet accepts gently used kids clothing and is a part of UMFS, a Virginia nonprofit that provides foster care, residential treatment, and other services for children and families.
Toys For Tots
Toys For Tots is a program that collects new toys for less fortunate children so they can experience the magic of the holidays. With the community’s help, the org distributed 80,807 and 40,404 just last year.
Mercy Mall
Mercy Mall is a free boutique serving individuals and families who are experiencing crisis situations. An appointment is required for drop-offs, and you can find a list of items needed here.
