Amelia Wildlife Management Area
Nestled in Amelia County, the Amelia Wildlife Management Area offers 2,217 acres perfect for stargazing. The area also includes 175 acres of bottomland hardwoods and beaver swampland along the Appomattox River, providing a serene backdrop for your night sky adventure (think: crickets and frog background noise!). It's under an hour drive away from Richmond, but the clear skies and natural beauty make it well worth the trip.

Leakes Mill Park
Just a 40-minute drive from the city, Leakes Mill Park boasts 176 acres of prime stargazing territory. Its open fields and minimal light pollution create an ideal environment for spotting constellations and shooting stars. Pack a picnic and make an evening of it!

Sandy River Reservoir
The Sandy River Reservoir is another fantastic spot for stargazing. Located just east of Farmville, this area is accessible from US 460. The reservoir offers a vast, unobstructed view of the night sky, making it a perfect destination for a star-filled night.

Bryan Park
If you can't venture too far from the city, Bryan Park is a great option. This cozy park in Lakeside offers wooded areas perfect for stargazing right in our backyard. It may not be as dark as some of the other locations, but it’s perfect for a quick and easy stargazing fix.
