Oh, hi!

I’m FRESH off a little trip to Legend Brewing Co. to enjoy some Bavarian Pretzels, American ales, and city views in this be-a-u-tiful weather we’re having! DYK they run a “Halfy Hour” every day from 2 to 4 pm — $2.50 half pints and $5 half pitchers? Cut out of work early with the buds or somethin’ and treat yourself ASAP. What else is springtime for?

And while we’re on the topic of great suggestions, we want some from you! Check it:

Annually, we donate a percentage of every business partnership (i.e., each paid marketing campaign that we coordinate with a local company) to Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity to help our neighbors secure safe, affordable housing while providing resources to prepare them for successful homeownership.

We continue to donate to other important causes in our community, too! A portion of every annual RVAx membership purchased goes to rotating nonprofits each month. We’re gearing up to finalize our list of nonprofit donations for the rest of 2023, and we want to know what you think — do you have a nonprofit org you’d like us to consider donating to? Enter the Weekly Giveaway down below and let us know!

Keep scrolling for that and RVA’s latest social news, including Insta-worthy spots to visit, Easter plans, who's selling way-discounted day passes all month long, and more.

RICHMONDER TO KNOW

David Blanchard: Yes, of the Blanchard’s Coffee. David started his coffee-roasting artistry as a hobby more than twenty years ago in his dad’s garage, and now his biz has three swoon-worthy shops throughout the city (we truly can’t pick a fave!) and delish blends for purchase by the bag in grocery stores and marketplaces all around town. AND Blanchard’s Coffee made Food & Wine’s list of The Best Coffee Shops in Every State for Virginia. Star-who? Fol-what?

THE LATEST:

SOCIAL NEWS

The kids are all right: The Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU recently unveiled its new Children’s Tower. The colorful addition officially opens at the end of this month. It and the Children’s Pavilion cover 1 million square feet of city real estate and “houses the region’s only Level 1 pediatric trauma center and emergency department with 24/7 access to any pediatric specialist a child may need, along with family amenities and 72 all-private acute and intensive care rooms that are among the most spacious in the country.” The project began in June 2019, so we’re very excited to see it completed and available as another resource to take care of our kiddos. (RVAHub)

We want a pizza this action: The FriendBar at Pizza Bones is hosting a month-long celebration of cider. Every Thursday in April, you can head to the Church Hill watering hole for a little something different, from Italian cider to ciders from Denmark. Pair your glass with something delicious from the pizzeria’s menu and start your Friday Eve off on a high note. Each event goes from 6 to 8 pm, and Pizza Bones is open from 4 to 9 pm. (Instagram)

Parade plans: Easter on Parade returns to RVA this Sunday after a three-year break. Kroger Mid-Atlantic, the City of Richmond. and the Monument Avenue Preservation Society are putting on the free event that will fill Monument Ave with live music, arts and crafts, vendors, and a whole lot more. Catch the People and Pet Bonnet Contest at 3:30 pm on N Allen St, and parade on before and after, from 1 to 5 pm. (RVAHub)

Your end-of-month dinner plans: Richmond Restaurant Week is back for its spring edition, starting on April 24. The event is in its third decade and benefits Feed More’s efforts, including Meals on Wheels and School Markets. Each participating restaurant offers a three-course, prix-fixe meal for $35.22 ($5.22 of which is donated to the nonprofit org). (Richmond magazine)

Count ‘em — 1, 2, 3, 4: Longoven owners Andrew Manning, Megan Fitzroy Phelan, and Patrick Phelan have more restaurant plans in the works. The trio opened Love Letter within Longoven itself and will soon open its Japanese concept Nokoribi in Forest Hill, but the newest-new on the horizon is set to live on Leigh St in Scott’s Addition. There isn’t a lot more info available rn, but city documents dub the in-progress project as The Salt House Restaurant. (Richmond BizSense)

Our broken hearts are healing: A new pizzeria is moving into Broken Tulip’s old digs in Carytown. We were v sad to hear the news of Anthony’s on the Hill closing its doors, but Carlos Alvarez, who owns Jalapeño’s, is opening his own Anthony’s Pizza. The new Italian restaurant will be similar to Alvarez’s spot by the same name in Ashland, featuring a more pared down menu — but with big slices of ‘za for the walkers-and-shoppers of Carytown.
