Powered by Fall Line Kitchen & Bar — coming soon: brunch hours (Saturday and Sunday, 7 am - 1 pm) and lunch hours (Monday - Friday, 11:30 am - 3 pm)! Make plans here.
HELLO!
Paige and I celebrated this de-lish springtime weather with a little happy hour at Celladora last night. Have you been there? I realized I hadn’t revisited since pre-pregnancy, and BOY, is it as cute as I remember. Colorful, cozy, and all the sips and snacks you’d need for a fun night out with a pal.
We talked skin-care, self-care, and whether or not we’d (accidentally) emailed the same person a response to his email — overall, a ~very~ thorough team outing.
TL;DR: Grab a friend and head to Celladora, split a bottle, get the five-choice cheese and charcuterie board and the Sub Rosa bread with cultured butter, and def invest in your skin-care products.
Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including where to celebrate the Cambodian new year, who’s hosting a wine expo, a new spot with 15+ types of tacos, and more.

RICHMONDER TO KNOW
Zoe the Orangutan: Did you catch this sweet story going around last week? Zoe lives at the Metro Richmond Zoo and had trouble breastfeeding her first baby (IYKYK, moms!), so when she recently delivered her second, the staff at the zoo wanted to help make her next breastfeeding journey a success. Zookeeper Whitlee Turner, who also had a baby a little while back, sat with her son outside of Zoe’s indoor enclosure to show her how to nurse, so the orangutan could learn by example. That — along with the tireless efforts of Lead Zookeeper Jessica Gring and other zoo staff members — worked out! Zoe nursed her baby for the first time less than 24 hours after Whitlee’s demo, and she and baby are healthy and bonding well. (No, you’re crying!)
THE LATEST:
THIS WEEK
Old MacDonald is v jealous: Five baby goats and three baby chicks moved onto Maymont Farm last weekend, just in time for Easter celebrations. The chicks are staying for the long haul, but the baby goats are just “couch surfing,” if you will — they’ll head back to their farm in Hanover County in a few weeks — so make sure you get a visit in soon. The new crew joins a herd of Nigerian dwarf, pygmy, and hybrid Angora/Boer goats; four chickens, one rooster, and three hens; and a whole other menagerie. (RVAHub)
When comedy and karaoke meet: Strangeways Brewing is hosting Jokey-oke this Thursday, April 13. Stop by the Scott’s Addition location for a brew (maybe a Blue Cotton Candy Berliner Weisse, if they still got ‘em?) and some belly laughs, as a host of comedians put on fifteen-minute sets featuring jokes and songs. The participants will compete for the audience’s vote for the best of the best, vying for the role of the next show’s host and a mystery prize. Tickets are only 10 bucks — but get them in advance; they’re $15 at the door! (Eventbrite)
Ring in the new year: The Cambodian new year starts this Friday, April 14, but Royal Pig is getting the party started on Thursday. Head to Hatch Local Food Hall for a delish celebration with the eatery, featuring a multi-course, family-style meal and a menu of Cambodian charcuterie, beef ceviche salad, and seared pork with Khmer sour sauce (plus lots more). (Eventbrite)
Talk about epic: The Visual Arts Center of Richmond will host its first Richmond Poetry Fest this Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15. The free event — supported by the Carole Weinstein Endowment for Creative Writing — comes just in time to celebrate National Poetry Month and will feature readings, workshops, vendors, and activity tables where attendees can “experiment with poetry comics and zines, letterpress, black out poetry, paint chip poetry, and poetry jewelry!” (RVAHub)
OTHER WEEKS
We love this to the core: Blue Bee Cider owner Courtney Mailey announced plans last year to step away from the biz. She’s looking to spend more time with her parents as they get older (while she keeps her hands in the cider industry through competitions and the friendships she’s made along the way), and with the $2.9 million sale of her cidery’s beautiful building in Scott’s Addition, Courtney also handed the reins to Event Coordinator and Assistant General Manager Mackenzie Smith and Cidermaker Taylor Benson. The couple plans to relocate (within the same ZIP code), offer new small-batch releases, and increase the number of bar taps to 15, among other exciting changes. (Richmond magazine)
This one’s for the moms: Rachel Knight, who led yoga classes at Humble Haven Yoga until just recently, has opened her own studio! Whole Heart Space caters to prenatal and postnatal women as well as yogis who are trying to get pregnant and new moms who want to fit a session in with their infants. RVAx founder and CEO, Sam Kanipe, is a big fan of Rachel’s and took her Humble Haven class — “Magical!” — every Sunday when she was pregnant with her first. Suffice it to say we’re thrilled for this biz owner and def suggest you check out her new spot! (Richmond BizSense)
Craving cake: Local artist Molly Reeder is illustrating celeb chef Samin Nosrat’s cookbook. Molly announced the “ultra-dream-come-true” news on Insta on Tuesday and noted that she and Samin will continue sharing tidbits as the book comes together, so keep your eyes peeled. With illustrations as mouth-watering as the buttermilk cake with chocolate frosting and sprinkles on sprinkles Molly posted, we can only imagine how beautimous this whole project will be. Making room for it on our kitchen counters now. (Instagram)
What’s better than one new restaurant?: Two! The former Mojo’s digs on W Cary St will become home to two new spots — Tito’s Taqueria and La Fe Cafe. The owners of each spot have been working at Kahlo’s Taqueria & Bar, their sister Iliana White-Padilla’s restaurant, and that relationship alone has us excited for what’s to come, but the planned menus don’t hurt either. Tito’s Taqueria will offer 15 to 20 different types of tacos as well as “tornado fries” on its food menu and frozen margaritas on tap. La Fe Cafe will focus on breakfast, lunch, and coffee, with a spread featuring an international influence — pancakes and waffles, chilaquiles, Honduran baleadas, and pupusas. (Richmond magazine)
