Ed 253: Coffee on Wheels, Hardywood Release, Grown-Up Field Trip
Well, hi!
It’s a beautiful (and getting-toasty) week in the River City as we head into one of our fave events of the year: the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k! You saw that we’re presenting the 10k Spirit Contest, right?! We’re SUH excited to see everybody all dressed up and cheering on every Richmond racer out there. Be sure to get in position as soon as you can; the race kicks off at 8:30 am, and, historically, things get pretty packed pretty early. And don’t forget a hat, sunblock, water, and all your other stay-safe-and-comfy gear. It’s a time, but you’ve gotta come prepared!
Speaking of this weekend, Jurassic Quest makes its return to the Greater Richmond Convention Center this Friday through Sunday, and if you’ve got kiddos, we’ve got you covered. The event is “the largest exhibition of lifesize, moving, museum-quality dinosaurs” and features rides, fossil-uncovering, dinosaur shows, and then some, and we’re joining forces with the Jurassic Quest squad to give away a family four-pack of tickets, valid for any day and time of the event. To enter to win, tell us: Roughly how many known species of extinct dinosaurs are there?
And of course there’s all the *other* springtime fun happening in the near future. You heard about that, too, didn’t you?

Jammin’ Grannies: Why jog or run the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k when you can dance-walk it? (JK, joggers and runners; we see you and are utterly impressed every year. Get AFTER it, ow!) Jammin’ on the one is the name of the game when the Grannies are involved, and this Saturday, they’re celebrating their ninth anniversary rockin’ down to (and on) Monument Avenue — wigs, fanny packs, and cardigans in tow. Get to Richmond’s biggest block party bright and early to cheer on this good-time gang and all the other spirited participants.

SOCIAL NEWS
I be up in the gym just working on my fitness: Square Code Fitness is embracing spring and taking its sweat sessions outdoors. Every Sunday from April 30 through June 4, gym-goers will meet up for a group workout at to-be-determined times and locations. If you’re a Square Code Fitness member, the series is free to attend, but if not, you can join individual workouts for $10 each or buy a series pass to all six classes for $30 (a straight-up steal, if you ask us). Tell your friends, bring your friends, and get out there! (Eventbrite)
What’s the buzz?: Paix Espresso! You can find the mobile espresso machine roaming around town, along with its Comandante grinder and custom water system. Barista buddies Danny Hodge and Seth McDaniel met while working at Roastology and bonded over their mutual love for all things coffee, ultimately giving life to the caffeine-on-wheels idea. Now the two are out and about, keeping Richmonders alert with a couple of pop-ups per week (and about 80 cups of Joe per pop-up!). (Richmond magazine)
As if you could forget: The Veil Brewing Co. opens its new and just-down-the-street taproom in Scott’s Addition this weekend. Situated at 1509 Belleville St, the spot will serve beer, wine, cider, and spirits to pair with its in-house food concept Nokoribi. To celebrate its grand opening, the brewery is throwing a block party from noon to midnight on Saturday, complete with live music, food trucks, sweet treats, and general merriment. As RVAHub writer Richard Hayes put it, “I’m sure it won’t be crowded at all.” Lolllll, Richard. We can’t WAIT! (Instagram)
Cool off with this: Riverrock, one of Richmond’s liveliest outdoor festivals, will feature a new brew this year. Hardywood Park Craft Brewery teamed up with Dominion Energy Riverrock, Sports Backers, and Venture Richmond and recently unveiled the Riverrock Pale Ale: “Light, refreshing, and smooth pale ale that’s going to taste amazing as you spend some time in the sunshine on Brown’s Island! Hops: dry hopped with Simcoe and Cascade hops.” Sounds as delish as every other Hardywood bev, and we’re delighted to read that it’ll be available in cans at the big event and is available already at Hardywood Richmond and Hardywood West Creek. (RVAHub)
It’s like looking in a mirror: The Children’s Museum of Richmond is hosting Mirrors & Windows next month. The event, billed as “a grown-up evening of play,” will feature local eats, specialty drinks, live music, prizes, and more. Have your cocktail attire dry-cleaned by Friday, May 12; tickets are on sale for $125 to the general pub now. (Children’s Museum of Richmond)
