Ed 255: Star Wars Celebration, Mother’s Day Gift Guide, Friday Cheers Tickets
Powered by River City Roll — boutique bowling; a seasonal menu, hopping cocktail scene, and dog-friendly patio; live music; and more! Need plans for tonight?
Hello, hello!
I can’t hide my real feelings — I just got back from Carolina Beach, and I’m experiencing MAJOR post-vacation blues. But in an effort to lift my spirits, I’ve been thinking of all the vacation-like things that are happening around the city now that we’re heading right toward summer:
Friday Cheers starts THIS Friday, May 5!
The new, *free* concert series at Main Street Station starts even earlier — Thursday, May 4!
It’s going to be 85 and sunny this time next week!
Don’t you practically feel like you’re on island time now? Yes? No? Would… a little umbrella for your midday coffee help?
I’ll continue work-shopping the vibe I’m going for and get back to you. Stand by.
Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including who’s throwing a pup party, how to celebrate your fitness in May, a new shop inspired by dusty libraries, and more.

RICHMONDER TO KNOW
One Small Step: Technically, this Richmonder to Know could be YOU. See, One Small Step is a program from StoryCorps that has an anchor community in RVA, where the org brings together folks with different political views to record 50-minute convos — not debating politics, but learning about one another. Each interview is recorded and archived at the Library of Congress, and if you’re interested in joining this initiative, you can apply to be matched with another local here!
THE LATEST:
SOCIAL NEWS
It’s giving Tony Hawk: Have you seen the latest episode of Greetings From by Red Bull Skateboarding? It features the underground skate scene in RVA, “where skaters are defying conformity and embracing individuality.” Take a coffee break this aft and give it a watch to learn more about the “crusty street spots” and “self-built skateparks” as the 13-minute piece explores the unique skate culture around the city. Wander on Strawberry Street: As you may recall, Emily Warden Designs moved to a new shop last year, and the Fan has welcomed a new neighbor in its former Strawberry Street place — The Wild Wander. The be-a-u-tiful shop officially opened its doors over the weekend, and we gotta say, it’s as equally stunning as its previous resident’s. If you’re in need of some paper goods and gifts, this is your place. Or if you’re in need of somewhere cozy, this is your place, too — according to the space’s About page, “it's inspired by dusty libraries, cluttered studies full of artifacts, and an abiding curiosity for forgotten history and the natural world.” Once we visit, we may never leave. Hey, vintage-loving friend: Halcyon Vintage has something fun coming up. The “magical little shop for true vintage lovers” is hosting its Spring Rummage sale this weekend — May 6 and 7. Snag some well-loved threads, jewels, and accessories at bargain prices! Then take your savings to Early Bird Biscuit Co. next door? Eh? (Instagram)
This is so fetch: Looking for a way to support the pups and get your crew out for some family-friendly fun? Think: FETCH Fest. The event (formerly known as Mutt Strut) is celebrating its last five weeks of fundraising for pets with cancer this Sunday, May 7, from 11 am to 2 pm. Head to Main Line Brewery and Cirrus Vodka to get your pawty on and enjoy live music, yummy eats and drinks, activity stations, and contests. And by the way, if you’re feeling donate-y, we’ve got a link for that. (FETCH Fest)
Ready, sweat, go!: We’re officially into the second quarter of the year. How’re your New Year’s resolutions? Did any of them involve working on your fitness? And do you need a new place to do that? Moore Than Fitness — a new Northside gym — is opening its doors with a launch party on Sunday, May 21. The space is meant for fitness newbies and people who might find more tradish health centers overwhelming. We love to see it! Stop by the party for a free group fitness class, tasty snacks, and info tables. (Instagram)
