Hello, hello!
How are you doing? We know — there’s no real sugar-coating it: Things have been a little rough (to say the very least). Thanks for hanging in there with us while we trimmed things down and took a beat to collect ourselves last week. We hope you did, too!
Now, as we move through this week and the weeks ahead, we’re keeping the victims of the shooting after Huguenot High School's graduation ceremony in our thoughts. And, as we especially like to do in times like these, we’re looking for things that help — help you, help us, help anyone and everyone.
Here are a few we’ve come up with so far:
Virginia Moms for Change shared this post that offers a script folks can use when calling their reps and demanding change.
Elaine Digges and the team at Richmond Grid shared a list of mental health resources (and others added their faves in the comments, too).
The Well Collective sent a newsletter to subscribers including a roundup of resources “to move towards individual and collective healing.” Here4TheKids is just one of many that caught our eyes.
The algorithm targeted us with this tic-tac-toe pancake board, so we’ve started saving up.

RICHMONDER TO KNOW
Alexa Schuett: She’s the owner of two of our absolute favorite spots in Church Hill — Liberty Public House and Riverbend Roastery. Having served at Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in Short Pump Town Center, Alexa was a seasoned pro in the restaurant biz before she took over Liberty in 2019, and when Riverbend went up for sale in 2021, she and her wife jumped at the opp to take it under their wings, too.

SOCIAL NEWS
Greener gardens: Agecroft Hall & Gardens recently announced the completion of its new solar field, and we love how Executive Director Anne Kenny-Urban put it, “At first, people think it's odd: Why would we have this modern technology? But it’s very much in keeping with the 16th century principle. You couldn’t waste your resources in the 16th century. You had to make use of everything. This is just a 21st century take on how you use your resources. We’ve got 23 acres, we’ve got sunlight. It’s a perfect place for us to put in solar.” With the change, Agecroft plans to put its electric-bill savings into its staff and programming. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Can’t Cancel Pride: Diversity Richmond is partnering with IHeartRadio and Procter Gamble to host the fourth annual Can’t Cancel Pride livestream. This Thursday, June 15, tune in at 8 pm to iHeartRadio's Facebook page and YouTube channel, Revry, the Roku channel, or the Advocate channel. JoJo Siwa hosts, and set to perform are Adam Lambert, Big Freedia and Ciara, Billy Porter, Hayley Kiyoko, Kelsea Ballerini, and Kesha. (Instagram)
Hatching plans: Hatch Local Food Hall is welcoming two new food spots to its space – TBT El Gallo and Greek on Cary. The eateries will take the place of Odyssey Fish and Sincero, respectively, and while we’re sad to see those fan favorites go, we can’t wait to get some more QT with TBT’s tacos and burritos and Greek’s gyros. Look for the new residents at Hatch this month and next. Oh, and! Don’t forget that Hatch also announced its summer movie series earlier in the month. The next showing is on Friday, June 23, and you can find deets as they’re available here. (Richmond BizSense)
Speaking of new neighbors: Neighbor opened its doors in Northside last week. The new spot doesn’t appear to have much of an online presence (yet!), but from what we can tell, it’s looking like another great option in the city for sandwiches, burgers, cold ones, and then some. Stop by the 4000 block of MacArthur Ave and check it out between the hours of 11 am and 9 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. (Instagram)
As if our sea-salt bagel hankering isn’t bad enough: It looks like Nate’s Bagels could be getting a new location in Scott’s Addition. We can dream, can’t we?! At the very least, the owner of Nate’s (Nate Mathews) and his wife did recently buy a space at 1219 Highpoint Ave. They’re not quite sure what they want to do with the opportunity, but if their bagel offerings are any indication, we’ll be wanting to stop by whatever this becomes almost weekly. (Richmond BizSense)
Wait 30 minutes to swim: Yes, Little Nickel’s nachos are some of the best in the biz, but the tropical diner is set to blow our minds even more. Snack Bar is the spot’s new concept. Starting this summer, on Fridays and Saturdays, if you’re in the mood for some island vibes but you don’t have a lot of time for din, you can stop by this new extension of the Forest Hill favorite and snag frozen bevs, hot dogs, ceviche, and other lighter fare.
