Hi, hi!

It’s quite possible I’m the last very last person in Richmond to visit Tom Leonard’s Farmer’s Market, but just in case I’m not — you have to go! The Cinderella pumpkins (my favorite *and* pictured above!) are aplenty, the seafood is fresh af, and the animatronics are giving Chuck E. Cheese.

And if that’s not enough (really? Even the Chuck E. Cheese part??), the spot offers a free Friday Night Movie series. Take the fam and kick things off this season with It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown this Friday. Hay-bale seating provided!

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including day camp, four openings, Folk Festbier, and more.

RICHMONDER TO KNOW

Brian Bell: If there’s one thing we can’t get enough of as we head into these colder months, it’s coziness, and the founder of Keep Virginia Cozy knows a thing or two about that. His nonprofit organization is dedicated to “protect[ing] wilderness and inspir[ing] all Virginians to care for our wild places.” According to its website, these Virginia-loving efforts have already removed thousands upon thousands upon thousands of pounds of litter and recycling from public land. Heck, we’ll take that kind of coziness all year long!

SOCIAL NEWS

Open for biz: As always, Richmond is hoppin’ with new spots to check out. Here are just a few to get on your radar (and later this week, catch The Trendspotter: October 2023 for more where that came from!):

Get hype: The HYPE 2023 ICONS Young Professional Awards Celebration is on the horizon, happening Thursday, November 30. The ceremony spotlights “the remarkable achievements of young professionals and organizations who are transforming the business landscape and making a lasting impact on the RVA community.” Nominations are open now, so if you know a team player, young citizen, young entrepreneur, or young professional that deserves some flowers, get your vote(s) in! (ChamberRVA)

In feel-good news: Jake + Dean Uncommon Coasters, a small biz that doles out – well – uncommon coasters, also works on Project rePurpose. The extension of the org, as Richmond magazine reported in its Sunday Story, “has a three-pronged approach to giving back to the community. It gives people the opportunity to donate unwanted trading  cards rather than throwing them away or letting them linger in storage. Those donated cards are then sorted and put into card packs and boxes by local students in workforce development programs at Henrico County Public Schools, St. Joseph’s Villa and Maggie Walker Governor’s School. Once packed, the cards are given back to students in those schools and to local hospitals and fire stations to share with families and children.” (Richmond magazine)

Don’t forget!: Maymont is now offering its new Out-of-School Day Camps, which will give kids in grades kindergarten through 8th the chance to hang at the historic estate and park. They’ll get to complete scavenger hunts, go on nature and history walks, see animals, and more. Two educators will lead each day of events (with a 9:1 student-teacher ratio), and snacks will be provided — but make sure to send your little ones with a packed lunch and reusable water bottle for the day. Sessions start at $70 per participant, but if you’re a Maymont member, you get a 25% discount! (Maymont)
