Ed 290: Espresso Martinis, Modern Taqueria, Full-Body Waxing
Powered by 1213 Hair Studio — a new year calls for a factory reset; schedule some YOU time here.
Hi!
Well, it happened: That snow they’ve been calling for made its entrance, and honestly… we could go for some more! Like, that pretty-dusting kind; not that can’t-make-it-out-of-the-house kind.
And how about those rushing rapids (^) a few days ago? Mother Nature was getting shit done. “Booked and BUSY,” she said.
… We’ve only had a couple espresso( martini)s today. Why do you ask?

Eilise Patton: We can’t be the only ones who regularly wheeze-laugh at this TikToker, right? (Do the kids call them “TikTokers”?) Eilise currently resides in LA, but when we realized the hilarious talent is originally from our neck of the woods, we thought, “Hey! Cool!” Get to know her comedy here or here — and sorry in advance for sending you on a scrolling spree. You can find us rewatching this one (again).

SOCIAL NEWS
New kids on the block: The last few days had lots of new-spot announcements. Here’s a lightning round of everything we saw hit the press recently 👇
Crescent Simples (which you’ve probably noticed at Reservoir Distillery and Cirrus Vodka, along with dozens of other local spots) is moving its operations to Bryant’s Cidery and Brewery’s former digs. They’ll mostly use the space as a production zone, but you can look for a small retail section to shop their goodies, as well. (Richmond BizSense)
Kindred Spirit Brewing is bringing a satellite location to Castleburg Brewery’s old space. (Richmond BizSense)
Natalie’s Taste of Lebanon just launched Voyage, a new culinary concept that aims to bring a variety of cuisine and culture to Richmonders through pop-up dinners, supper clubs, and other events. Keep an eye on social media for upcoming opps to taste some international flavors. (Instagram)
River City Wood Fire Pizza opened a storefront in Powhatan. Peep the menu here and call (804) 635-8008 when you’re ready to order. And look out for an online ordering option in the future! (Instagram)
Roastology is opening its new space in Scott’s Addition. (Instagram)
TBT El Gallo has plans to debut a modern taqueria in an even bigger brick-and-mortar form than it currently offers. Expect breakfast burritos, coffee, bar food, cocktails, tacos, and other Mexican staples, as well as more details in the coming months. (Instagram)
Plant power: Local developers purchased the former hydroelectric plant at 1201 Haxall Pt and are set to transform the area into Padel Plant. The new biz will feature a half-dozen padel courts, a few pickleball courts, and a spot for sips and snacks. But don’t worry — the mural wall will stay put. (Richmond BizSense)
Join the club: Looking for new ways to build creativity, community, and confidence? Check out Richmond Creative Club. Richmonder Miranda Anderson hosts the monthly creative workshops, like Block Printed Cards, Leather Cord Keeper and Keychain, Watercolor on Fabric, and more. Purchase a membership or drop-in session — whatever meshes with your schedj. (Instagram)
Adopt, don’t shop: And scope out Maymont when you do. The historic estate and park offers symbolic donations of the more than 85 species living at the Farm. Choose a $25, $50, or $100 adoption package, and, depending on the amount, receive an adoption cert, animal fact card, Maymont map, two tix to The Robins Nature Center, and a voucher for a plush version of your adopted furry friend.
