Hello there!

Well, it’s been one week of post-football season, and while I miss tuning in to see Taylor Swift’s outfits all the throwing and catching and hut-hutting, I’m looking forward to spring. Pisces Season is officially upon us, St. Patrick’s Day is on the horizon, and Girl Scout cookies have arrived in Richmond.

Before you know it, we’ll be summer festival-ing and floating on the James again! But until then, there’s time to fill. Luckily, we’ve rounded up some tidbits for that.

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including a new cocktail and oyster bar, secret art shows, this year's Friday Cheers lineup, and more.

SOCIAL NEWS

Otterly amazing: There’s a new otter taking up residency at Maymont, and the historic estate and park needs help naming her. Here’s how to send in your suggest:

  • Adopt an animal through February 25 and suggest a name in the "Comments" box during checkout. Please use the following format: Certificate Recipient Name; Otter Name Suggestion.

  • Vote on the top three name suggestions in the poll March 1 through 8 via email or Maymont's social media.

  • Mark your calendars: Meet the new otter and find out her name at The Robins Nature Center March 15 through 17.” (Maymont)

Our guide for Spots to Slurp Oysters is getting an update: Beaucoup opens “soon(ish).” The new cocktail and oyster bar from the brains behind Grisette and Jardin had a soft opening for its close family and friends over the weekend and will be hard-launching to the public this Thursday, February 22 (through Saturday). After that, you can expect to visit every week between Wednesday and Sunday, until the spot gets comfy in its space and extends its hours. Keep an eye on Insta for updates on the food, drinks, and people “that make this little Fan bar so special.” (Instagram)

Home sweet home (and garden): The 2024 Richmond Home + Garden Show is coming up (March 1 through 3!), and our friends BTS gave us a discount code to pass along. Use RICHMONDEXPERIENCE to get 50% off your ticket (or buy it here), and get excited to enjoy the 250 exhibitors (70+ of which are new and the majority of which are local or Richmond-based). *And* get some QT with two celebrity guests while you’re there — Virginia Chamlee, author of the bestselling book Big Thrift Energy: The Art and Thrill of Finding Vintage Treasures and writer for People Magazine, and Jeff Devlin, carpenter/woodworker and HGTV/DIY/Magnolia Network host. (Richmond Home + Garden Show)

We’re not yolking around: Eggs Up Grill is coming to Mechanicsville. The popular brunch spot plans to open its doors in April and will feature a menu of corned beef hash, made-to-order omelets, grilled blueberry muffins, and other breakfast and lunch options. Franchise partners Shamsher Jessani, Ali-Noor Jessani, and Umair Khimani look to open a second Eggs Up Grill in the near future and are currently accepting apps for the Mechanicsville location. (WRIC)

Our lips aren’t sealed: Local artist Noah Scalin has made deals to display his paintings and mixed-media pieces at six different businesses in RVA (so far). Get a closer look when you visit:

And watch his Instagram and TikTok for more “secret art show” locations. (RVAHub)
