Oh, hi!
Time for a li’l check-in: How’re you doing? May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so we’ve got the brain on the brain, and since we’re all about making recs over here, we thought we’d start with a few that focus in on your cerebrum situation:
🧠First, have you had a chance to read our City Guide RVA RESOURCES TO HELP CARE FOR YOUR MENTAL HEALTH? It offers all kinds of hot tips, including how to easily find therapists in our area. I’m on a bi-weekly-meetup basis with mine! (TTYS about that thing and that other thing, Erika.)
🧠Also, did you know about this grayscale hack for your phone? It’s helped me (kind of) cool it with mindless scrolling recently.
🧠And while I have you up here, take a quick sec to slowly breathe in and out, relax your shoulders, and smile to yourself!
Okay. Now. Ready for some more feel-good stuff?
Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including things we’re *way* loving this month, LUNCH.SUPPER!’s new space, a summer kickoff festival, and more.
THINGS WE’RE *WAY* LOVING THIS MONTH
Paige:
Two Pillars Tattoo: After a stressful few days, my best friend and I decided to add to our mini tattoo collection. We worked with Charles Berger, owner of Two Pillars Tattoo. I like to keep my tattoos small and dainty, and he did just that — I loved my experience!
BOHO Studios: You guys know I'm a huge fan of BOHO Studios. I have been working out with them for about a year now, and during April, we wrapped up the 30 for 30 Challenge. It was generally a tough month, and accomplishing 30 workouts in 30 days on top of everything else was no joke, but I loved the motivation of it all.
Kelsey:
Local honey: I’m going with a tea-themed gift for my mom this Mother’s Day, and I love adding something cutie like local honey as a topper for that kind of thing. This time, I’m going with some from Glen Allen Greenhouse, but I love snagging a jar when I visit Gallmeyer Farms, too. You can find locally sourced options all over Richmond, and it really is the ~sweetest~ touch to any present.
The Berry Patch: Speaking of Gallmeyer Farms, the spot is open for strawberry-picking! Visiting is a great way to get out and about with your pals or kids *and* check something off your grocery list while you’re at it.

Have fun. Do good. It’s that simple!” as they say. Registration for ASK’s 19th annual 5k and Fun Walk on May 18 is open now, so let this be your sign to sign up!
THE LATEST:
SOCIAL NEWS
It’s harvest time for music-festival tickets: Richmond has the beer scene, coffee scene, and outdoorsy scene on lock, and it seems like the River City is about to become a staple for the music-festival scene, too. Maymont is joining the trend with its Summer Kickoff Festival. On Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8, the historic estate and public park is throwing a party on the Carriage House Lawn, featuring live music, craft drinks, food trucks, and more. Tickets to attend are 20 bucks for adults per day (and $10 for kids age 3 to 16 per day). (Maymont)
Hot [tomato] in the city: Duke's Mayonnaise is collabing with local restaurants again for Hot Tomato Summer. The days-long event comes back to town on Thursday, July 18, and runs through Sunday, July 28. For the fourth year in a row, it will highlight fan-favorite eateries for a 'mater mitzvah, with seasonal dishes featuring mayo and 'matoes. In years past, ZZQ and Fuzzy Cactus (to name just a couple) participated, and registration is open now for this year's participants. (Duke’s Mayo)
Break out your bright whites: The Tri-City Chili Peppers are playing the “world’s first-ever cosmic baseball game” this spring. On Saturday, June 1, the baseball team is turning OFF the white lights and turning ON the black lights, wearing black-light-reactive uniforms, and having fans wear black-light-reactive swag, too. Wilson Sporting Goods is even getting in on the action, making black-light-reactive baseballs for the occasion. The game happens at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights, and you can snag tix on the team’s website. (Instagram)
Making more room for supper: LUNCH.SUPPER! is expanding its SUPPER! operation. Starting on Saturday, May 18, the beloved and quirky spot for American eats and weekend brunch will start serving from what was once its catering space, featuring a new bar and new tabletops along with a new menu. Keep your eyes on Insta for more information as the grand (re)opening nears, and make reservations for a meal ASAP. (Instagram)
Partners in lime: Our very own contributing writer Celeste Chance is bringing her awesomeness to the local NA bev world. She and her VCU grad school classmate Catherine Emblidge have joined forces to launch Everything But The Booze, a non-alcoholic canned cocktail line that (currently) includes margarita, sangria, and mule options. Support their Kickstarter here, and look out for their thirst-quenching “shocktails” at pop-up markets around town. (Richmond BizSense)
J-M-U wish you had a Duke Dog: And now you can! Purple Nation is soft-opening a shop in the Painted Tree Boutiques in Glen Allen this weekend and planning a grand opening for Saturday, June 1. Stop by for all things JMU, like apparel, tailgate essentials, and just about anything else you’d like the Duke Dog (or purple and gold) featured on. (Facebook)

Positively Delicious
You know we love a picnic opp and this one’s no exception. Positively Delicious fancies itself a ~casual picnic~ of sorts, featuring delicious and delectable bites — all for a heartwarming cause. The Positive Vibe Foundation (which is dedicated to providing transformative training and coaching to help individuals with disabilities lead fulfilling and independent lives) hosts its second annual iteration of this culinary extravaganza, and the nonprofit org wants you to have a seat on the (figurative) blanket.
This week, we’re teaming up with the folks behind Positively Delicious to give away two tickets (a $300 value!) to the event! Shyndigz, Stanley’s, and other local faves will be there, too.
