Hey there!
Given the weather forecast, the gloomy skies are probably glooming outside and you’re probably feeling very sleepy, groggy, and generally ~meh~.
But SNAP OUT OF IT. We’ve got a blast of warm-weather *funn* on the horizon for you, and we’re not about to let a little rain dampen our upcoming party plans, party people! We’re teaming up with our friends at the Richmond Flying Squirrels ballpark (yes, THE Nutzy, Nutasha, and crew) and treating you to a night of baseball and then some on Thursday, May 30!

SOCIAL NEWS
Pop over to the new pop-up park: There’s a new pop-up park in town. On Cutshaw Ave, between Wayne St and N Sheppard St, the city of Richmond set up a temporary (but potentially permanent!) park for folks to come visit. This movement was the Richmond’s response to residents saying they felt unsafe in the area. The space officially opened on Saturday and will stay put for about a week, allowing the city to see how folks utilize it and if it would make sense as a long-lasting fixture in the area. (Instagram)
Chuck E. Cheese could never: Thanks to one of our fave local resources The West End Mom, we saw that Toddling Around is now open! The new indoor play place is located in Short Pump and offers free play options for kiddos, ages 0 to 4 (and up to 6 years old for some activities). You can even attend classes or rent out the space for birthday parties and such. (Instagram)
Where to find vegan patty melts and more: Tiny Vegan has officially opened a storefront. The once-a-food-cart place for an all-vegan menu (featuring some gluten-free options, too) kicked things off on Saturday at its new digs in Carytown. Stop by ASAP for mouth-watering breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, cold brew, and more. (Instagram)
Your weekend plans are gonna rock: Riverrock szn is here again! That's right: The nation's premier outdoor sports and music festival is back for 2024, beginning this Friday, May 17, through Sunday, May 19. From yoga classes to trail runs, group art installations to bike exhibitions, sustainability projects to music, scavenger hunts, and more, you’ll have no shortage of ways to enjoy the great outdoors on and around Brown’s Island. Check out the schedule, parking info, and more here before you head over. (Riverrock)
Figure out your voting plan!: Friendly reminder: It’s a big voting year (as if you could forget), and our first opp for ballot-casting in 2024 is underway. Primary day is on Tuesday, June 18, but if you want to make your voice heard ASAP, you can submit an early vote anytime between now and June 15. Axios Richmond recently highlighted these other important things to keep in mind, too:
Noteworthy dates:
May 28 is the deadline to register to vote or update registration.
June 7 is the deadline to apply for a mailed absentee ballot.
June 15 is the last in-person early voting day.
Polling place info:
Look up your polling place here.
Things to bring with you:
A form of ID, but residents who don't have one when they go to vote can cast a provisional ballot that's counted once officials verify eligibility. (Axios Richmond)
