RICHMONDER TO KNOW
Classical Revolution RVA: We’re majorly into the hidden gems here at The Richmond Experience, so when Classical Revolution RVA let us know that it’s hosting a Hidden Gems Season Finale Concert at Gallery5 this Sunday, June 16, we were ~all ears~. The org’s mission focuses on integrating “classical music with Richmond’s vibrant music scene by taking it into local bars, restaurants, cafes, and galleries — places people are already going to hear live music,” in an effort to create a buzz around classical music, not a stigma. This partic show features local musicians performing pieces that are underappreciated and underperformed, new to the repertoire, or pieces that have yet to fit one of Classical Revolution RVA’s programs! *Sounds* amazing, if you ask us.
THE LATEST:
SOCIAL NEWS
Welcome to my house: Richmond magazine published its Real Estate Guide 2024, for those of you who are in the thick of house-hunting or for those of you who will be soon. The roundup includes a Real Estate Market Snapshot, Referred Real Estate Agents 2024, and info concerning general housing topics in gen. Good luck out there, home-owning hopefuls! (Richmond magazine)
Something’s brewing: Keep your eyes peeled for Brainstorm Brewhouse next month. The collab-in-the-making comes from the brains behind Black Heath Meadery and The Answer. Expect delish brews (three of which are already on tap at Black Heath, FYI (Buzz Worthy, a dry honey lager; the crisp Kiss of Chocolate lager; and Psych Eval double IPA)), a cozy-cool drinking atmosphere, and more, as the place finds its rhythm. (Richmond magazine)
There are homemade tortillas in your future: El Chido has opened its sixth Richmond-area location in Chesterfield. Enjoy menu items found at the five other locations, like the spot’s popular birria tacos and tortas and its homemade tortillas. And if you want our rec, defff start with an order of elotes, El Chido’s take on the Mexican corn dish (generally) featuring grilled corn on the cob slathered in a mayo cream sauce and garnished with chili powder, cheese, and lime. (Richmond BizSense)
Happy AND sad doughnut news: We’ll get the tough stuff out of the way first — Diablo Doughnuts posted on social media earlier this week that the Glen Allen doughnut shop had officially closed its shop to tend to some personal health issues. We’re wishing the whole Diablo Doughnuts team well!
In sweeter news, The Treat Shop announced the opening of its newest location, over on Iron Bridge Rd.
And if you need *even more* doughnut spots to visit (we understand!), check out four of our other favorites in town. National Doughnut Day has come and gone, but, like, who cares, you know? (Instagram, Instagram)
It’s just about high time for floatin’ on the James again: But you have to keep things safe! Lucky for us Richmonders, there are lots of resources that help with that, including James River Watch. The program, with the James River Association at the helm, relies on the help of volunteers and partners across the area to provide the public with updated river info on a weekly basis. Think deets like: water temperature, air temperature, cloudiness, conductivity, and harmful bacteria presence. (RVAHub)
Korean street tacos and more: The owners behind Oceano (and formerly Maya) are bringing a new concept to town. Centro, located just down(ish) the road in Midlo, will offer New American eats as a nod to South America, Peru, and co-owner Maria Oseguera’s native Colombia. Whet your appetite for a menu with “a Latin flair, with a few Peruvian and Asian touches, such as noodles and stir-fried steaks. There will also be a few taco dishes from Maya — such as the Korean street tacos with shrimp and kimchi and the bourbon steak tacos, as well as several ceviches and Peruvian fried rice.” (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

BigWife’s
This spot features a menu inspired by the owner’s pregnancy craving for the ultimate comfort food. There’s the Little Figgy Mac, the Buffalo Mac, and the seven other delish options on the menu in addition to the Big Ass Cookie and the Big Boy Brownie for dessert(s). (Okay, and yes, they have salads, too, which also look great. We’re just particularly fixated on the cheesier choices.)
This week, we’re teaming up with BigWife’s to give away a mac ‘n cheese bundle! Cheese, Louise, eh?
To enter, tell us: It’s been long enough — what’s your fave song on The Tortured Poets Department (so far)?
