Hello, hello!

I made it to and from the beach last week, and I’m so glad to be meeting you in your inbox again! Now, this afternoon, it took me a beat to remember what the “mac” in “mac and cheese” stands for, but I’ve just about dusted the rest of the sand off my brain and am ready to head into the next season, ~fall leaves~ ahead. I stocked my fridge with a six-pack of Alewerks Pumpkin to chill alongside my take-home six-pack of Carolina Brewery Fin Chaser, and I think the official transition from summer to fall at the end of this week will go off without a hitch. (TBD re: fall in general, but just get your ballot in ASAP and lean on whatever pumpkin spice support systems you need to get through.)

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including a certified iconic restaurant, the Pipeline Trail safety hazard, Indian-inspired coffee drinks, and more.

RICHMONDER TO KNOW

2024 Voter Guide: Fittingly, this comes to us from The Richmonder, a just-launched nonprofit news outlet that covers government goings-on in the city and elsewhere, among other topics. We thought the pub’s Voter Guide might be particularly relevant this time of year, as it covers info about where the candidates stand in every race, city-wide. (BTW, the deadline to register to vote or update registration is comin’ in hot — make sure you’re situated here!)

SOCIAL NEWS

Fall is in the air: Maven Theory, a meeting of the minds behind Maven Made and Sun Theory, will open its new storefront on October 26. The Bellevue space, located in the historic Samis Grotto Temple building, will make way for fragrances, candles, and fine goods from Richmond and beyond. (Instagram)

Richmond continues to uphold its rep for delish coffee: With spots like Pi’s Coffee celebrating its first year in the River City business, for example. The shop is another one you can find on wheels, as owner Piyush “Pi” Jessani rolls around town offering his Indian-inspired creations from his converted Japanese kei-truck. Not in need of a caffeine fix? Try one of Pi’s many coffee-free drinks, like rose lemonade, blue milk tea, seasonal spritzers, and more. (Richmond magazine)

Casual comfort and sophisticated dining: Sweet P’s RVA opened this week in Jackson Ward. The spot that’s “redefining American cuisine” offers scratch-made dishes, like cardamom rubbed salmon with maple-roasted root vegetables; enoki nashville with vegan slaw, pickles, and vegan brioche; and Peruvian chicken fries with aji verde. (Sweet P’s RVA)

Say it ain’t so: Sincero is closing its doors at the end of this month, on Sunday, September 29. The spot known originally for serving its Mexican-American fare from pop-up tents opened a brick-and-mortar within the last year, but cites the “brutal business” of the restaurant industry in announcing its impending closing. The eatery will be up and running per usual until its last day, so make sure to stop by and support during its last few days. We’ll look forward to whatever comes next from the amazing team over there. (Instagram)

It’s giving Country Greek Salad: Joe’s Inn recently reached icon status according to the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association (VRLTA) (although, it was already an icon in our hearts, TBH). Second-generation owner Tina Kafantaris emphasizes the restaurant’s community feel and offer of “something for everyone,” as she’s seen folks enjoy first dates, engagements, and other lifetime milestones with a meal at Joe’s Inn. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Caution, rivergoers!: The Pipeline Trail is closed to the public for the time-being, and it’s possible the city may close it permanently. The trail’s critical (and namesake) pipe failed and caused a sh*tty situation this summer, and the Department of Public Utilities recently expressed concern over the aging infrastructure’s safety, advising Richmonders to avoid “traveling to the 'beach' area near the pipe as safety hazards exist."(Axios)
