FOOD + DRINK NEWS
North End Juice Co officially announced a Church Hill location coming early next year! Smoothies, juices, wellness shots, wraps, bowls, and more will soon be nearby for residents of the hill. Look for this to open on Jefferson Ave across from Dear Neighbor.
This might be the last season for Innsbrook After Hours as you know it! According to this article, the original intended purpose of the venue was to provide entertainment for employees in the surrounding office park. Over the years the venue, managed by EventMakers-USA Inc., began drawing bigger crowds filled with outsiders. As the crowd got bigger, so did the acts and now the employees are rarely the ones filling the seats, or um...standing around. Concerts may continue to exist but it won't be the same. Another entertainment spot is headed for RVA! This time it's axe-throwing at Stony Point. Stumpy's Hatchet House will open in the Spring of next year and offers guests the opportunity to hurl axes at a wood stump target bolted to a wall. Their 6,700 square foot space will also include lounge areas with large farm tables and comfy couches. This will be the fourth entertainment spot to enter Stony Point (see AR Workshop, CineBistro, and Gnome and Raven). Over the past year they've added tons of programming and festivals including live salsa lessons, beer and cider festivals, pet-friendly events, and more. If you haven't been out there in awhile, now is the time to go.
Two new CBD shops have opened in Richmond! Kanapa CBD and Your CBD Store - Hanover join Kulture, Your CBD Store - Regency Mall, and others in offering CBD products to RVA residents! A number of local shops, groceries, and wellness spots are also stocking their shelves with these products including Ellwood Thompon's and Union Market. During a recent visit to Vitality Float Spa we tried CBD chocolate, our very first experience, and we both felt a little more relaxed. Barks & Brews Festivals is happening at Stony Point Fashion Park this Saturday and Sunday! The event includes an all-breeds-welcome Ultimate Air Dog Competition, “Pawvillions” with lots of treats, and of course, brews and food for dog parents. The event is free to attend and will also include music, dog friendly vendors, and more. Have fun!
Set your alarm clocks, Hamilton tickets go on sale THIS FRIDAY! That's right, the national hit Broadway show about America’s Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton, is coming to Altria Theatre. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton is the story of America then, as told by America now. Tickets are expected to sell out quickly and will be available first at the box office beginning at 8AM and then online beginning at 10AM. We suggest you make plans to hit to box office first thing in the morning!
NATIONAL ATTENTION
Richmond's street art scene was recognized in the travel journalist site, Matador Network! In their article 11 American cities with surprising street art scenes, author John Gerry says "when it comes to street art, Richmond ranks next to big-name cities like New York and Los Angeles." He accurately attributes the RVA Street Art Festival and the Richmond Mural Project as the drivers of the flourishing contemporary art around every corner. Other cities in the article include Dallas, Cincinnati, DC, Reno, and Denver.
The South of the James was named one of the 10 best farmers' markets in the U.S. by USA Today! Open year-round, you can snag local produce, meats, flowers, coffee, breakfast, including the famous Mrs. Yoder's donuts, and so much more.
