ED 68: Sandwich Week, Saved by the 90s, Sugar + Twine
Hey there!
We've sure been enjoying the weather this week but we've lived in Richmond long enough to know we shouldn't trust it to stick around. Second Summer is coming but this only means you still have plenty of opportunities to hit a rooftop, check out the James River, and soak in more pool days! Let's explore Richmond this week...
THE LATEST:
FOOD + DRINK NEWS
Forget White Claw, a local sparkling cocktail will soon be available in Richmond thanks to our friends at Belle Isle Shine! These ready-to-drink cocktails will be made with their moonshine, real and all-natural juices, and a burst of bubbles for 110 calories or less. We don't have the scoop on flavors yet but we'll keep you posted. Look for this to launch October 1 (did someone say PSL?).
Add this to your must check-out list! A new restaurant is opening up in the former Urban Farmhouse space inside Linden Row and get this - it's Edgar Allen Poe themed. Renovations are nearly complete for Parterre which plans to open next month. If you're not familiar with Linden Row Inn, it's a cozy boutique hotel downtown that's a popular spot for rehearsal dinners, weddings, and other romantic events. Need a staycation? Book the Linden Row Inn, eat at the Poe themed restaurant and hit up a few museums in the area. Sounds like a nice weekend to us! (Richmond BizSense)
Crafted is getting ready to open soon! In edition 54 of The Insider (published May 15), we dished the details on this new restaurant opening in Libbie Mill Midtown but ICYMI, or need a refresher, Crafted is a concept from the owners of Marty's Grill in Mechanicsville and will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner offering staples like sandwiches, steak, pastas, and brunch items. Neighboring commercial tenants include Burn Bootcamp, Solidcore, and Radiant Nails and Spa. Follow @libbiemillrva to stay up to date on the latest happening in Midtown!
HAPPENINGS
It's Sandwich Week in Richmond! Drop in to a participating restaurant through Sunday, September 1 for a signature sandwich for just $5-$6 bucks. There are over 15 spots around town offering this deal and if you're feeling extra hungry, you can snag a passport, get a few stamps, and enter to win a $200 gift card. We suggest The Italian Melt at The Camel or hit up Beauvine because they've got a pick-your-own patty option with American cheese, bibb lettuce, onion, house made pickles, and beau sauce for $6 which is a steal. Enjoy!
NATIONAL ATTENTION
Did you catch the Audi commercial featuring Richmond landmarks? At 3:49 you'll see The Diamond in the background along with the city skyline from the east, the view as you head South on the Manchester bridge, and a snippet of the Richmond Raceway. Watch the video here. (NBC12 News)
The Jasper Bar is named one of the 10 best bars according to an award winning bartender in this USA Today 10 Best article! Kate Girwin writes, "The Jasper is a really lovely and unassuming cocktail spot. They're named after one of the first preeminent black bartenders of the pre-Prohibition era, and the drinks are amazing. Their slogan is 'Full pours and honest prices' and they mean it, which makes them pretty legit in my book." We really couldn't agree more. The Jasper is a solid spot for a great craft cocktail and it seems like they are regularly scheduling some awesome popups. Is it too soon to be excited about Miracle on Cary St?
