SOCIAL NEWS
Buckets of seafood served picnic style is headed for Carytown! With it’s first location in Shockoe Bottom just around the corner from the 17th St Farmers Market, Sauce and Toss will be opening their second location in the Carytown Food Court. Build-your-own buckets of seafood boils with a garlic lemon sauce is their flagship offering. Look for this to open soon.
A new clothing and accessories boutique is opening in Short Pump and it’s local! Happy Haven offers clothing and accessories in addition to one of a kind vintage pieces collected and curated by owner, Heather Engel. Happy Haven began as an online and traveling boutique and will open next week. Get a sneak peek of a few offerings here.)
Get ready to celebrate Taco Tuesday Greengate! Wong Tacos, a spin-off of the Downtown restaurant, Wong Gonzalez, is headed for the shopping plaza alongside other recognizable spots like The Daily and West Coast Provisions. Their tagline “The Taco: Evolved” promises eclectic options like the Kung Pao Shrimp Taco with Asian slaw, fresno chilis, sesame seeds, peanuts, charred green onions and a gochujang aioli (*googles gochujang aioli) or the Korean Beef Taco using NY Strip marinated in sticky Asian sauce, gochujang aioli, Asian slaw, jalapenos, green onions, radish, and sesame seeds on a corn tortilla. Wong Tacos opens next month.
The Fan is getting burgers and hot dogs starting in early 2020! Just one block off Broad St across from the Science Museum, Capital Burgers and Dogs will be located at 814 N Robinson St and will offer a small menu of juicy burgers and house made hot dogs along with a few sides. They join the many burger joints in the area including Burger Bach, Carytown Burger and Fries, and Citizen Burger Bar to name a few. (Richmond BizSense)
Two blocks behind The Belleville food hall in Scott’s Addition, plans have been released for a winery, restaurant and park! According to J Elias O’Neal of Richmond BizSense, “plans call for the site to include 40 parking spaces, separate play areas for children and pets, grassy areas for group gatherings and picnics, picnic tables and hammocks, and a fire pit area.” Developers and investors of the project also site a possible dog park and there have long been talks of creating a trail for bikers, walkers, etc along the abandoned railroad tracks behind Scott’s Addition heading east towards Carver. This new winery, restaurant and park would be a prime starting or stopping point of the trail. (Richmond BizSense)
Treat your taste buds to Vasen’s Mint Chip Stout described as “a big ol’ scoop of mint chip ice cream, this smooth, dark ale is full of deep chocolate and mint flavor, which is balanced by the unmistakable aroma of fresh Madagascar vanilla beans.” Sounds delicious! It’s available in draft and cans.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Flower Magazine interviewed local interior designer, Amanda Nisbet, to find out where she would stay and what do in Richmond during the holidays. We bet you can guess the answers included The Jefferson, Quirk Hotel, Lewis Ginter’s Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights, and more. Catch the full article here.
We feel a little confused about this next one. USA Today’s 10 Best named Richmond one of the most underrated food cities of 2019. Are we underrated? We thought we’ve been receiving plenty of shiny recognition for our booming food scene over the last five+ years but perhaps there’s more? Oh and speaking of which, Alewife was named (again) one of the best new restaurants in America. First by GQ and now by Esquire.
