This edition of the Weekly Insider is proudly brought to you by River City Veterinary Hospital!
Hey there!
Many exciting things are coming up in Richmond so we can’t wait to dive in this week. We’ve got an update on Scott’s Market, some big news from Hardywood, and a sneak peek at brand new renderings of the forthcoming Common House. If that’s not enough, the event calendar is packed and we are giving away two VIP tickets to the Virginia Wine Expo. Onward…
THE LATEST:
SOCIAL NEWS
First, we’ve got an update on Scott’s Market! RVAx member Taylor C. reached out to give us the scoop and we. are. pumped. Apparently Scott’s Market is coming to us from the folks behind Capital Market Café on Main St in the Fan (formerly Black Swan Books, across from BRUNCH). The concept should be similar meaning fresh produce, select grocery items, toiletries, grab-and-go prepared foods, desserts, beer, wine, coffee, sandwiches, kombucha, and more! But get this: if the hours are anything like the Fan location, the market would be open 6:30am to 12am Sunday through Wednesday, til 1am on Thursday, and til 3am on Friday and Saturday! It would be the only late-night option in SA. Talk about clutch.
A sixth location is opening in the Richmond area for Gelati Celesti (seventh total counting Virginia Beach)! Located on Hull Street past Brandermill and 288. The other six locations include the West End near Gold’s Gym, in Bon Air at Stony Point Shopping Center, Short Pump across from the mall, Scott’s Addition across from Bowtie, and Grove Avenue near the corner of Libbie and Grove. The new location will be at 13487 Hull Street Rd with plans to open in April. Keep an eye on their social media for grand opening specials.
Friday Cheers season passes are currently on sale for a steal til March 10. At $35, you are paying less than $5 per show for the season which runs every Friday May 1 through June 26 (with the exception of Dominion Riverrock weekend May 15-17). Shows are priced at either $5 or $10 so if you plan to attend a few then it is well worth it. The full 2020 lineup will be announced on March 10 when season pass prices go up so don’t wait.
In a surprising Facebook post, Hardywood announced they’ll be “embarking on a major overhaul to our downtown Richmond brewery and taproom at the corner of Ownby Lane and Overbrook Road. In the months ahead, we’re investing in permanent infrastructure to relocate our original 20-barrel brewhouse within our taproom building, making our innovations in experimental brewing a more central and engaging part of the visitor experience. There will also be considerable enhancements made to the patio and interior spaces, including our events and music venue to create a more inviting and comfortable space for our guests.” So what does this mean exactly? Mike Platania over at Richmond BizSense shares the full plan which includes the brewery’s downsizing and the possibility of making way for new development in the area.
Updated renderings of the forthcoming Common House were recently released! Get a sneak peek inside the five-story social club set to open later this year. With two unique dining spaces, event space, co-working and office space, a rooftop terrace, a club space and more, there is no shortage of social, educational, and entertaining programs happening. Common House has also introduced Common Ring, a partnership with local wedding brands and they are holding a big giveaway including a $5,000 venue credit at Common House Richmond, a $1,000 rental credit with Paisley & Jade, 30% off photography and planning services, 25% off a wedding cake by WPA Bakery, and so much more. HAPPENINGS
Each year, Richmond Habitat for Humanity engages nearly 200 women in the completion of a home for a local family in a project known as their Women Build. To kick off the build, Habitat hosts a Sip and Shop event at the Richmond ReStore. The event is open to the public, and you can RSVP to attend here. Proceeds from the evening go to support the fundraising goal for this year’s build. The store will be open for shopping, plus shop local artwork, and enjoy food trucks and adult beverages!
The 15th Annual Richmond History Makers and Community Update is happening on March 10th, 2020 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Virginia Union University's Living and Learning Center! The Valentine and Community Foundation for a greater Richmond ask you to join them to celebrate six honorees, learn about the good work taking place in the region from the Community Foundation and get inspired to make a difference in your own backyard!
