THE LATEST:
SOCIAL NEWS
Is Scott’s Addition getting another market!? Located at the corner of Clay and Roseneath, a sign recently went up reading “Scott’s Market” at 3400 Clay St, inside the commercial space below Scott’s View. According to RVAx member Anne W., and current tenant of the building, the rumor is that a market and juice bar will open and it’s unclear if these are one in the same. Stella’s Grocery is just two blocks up so it will be interesting to see what kind of market opens here. The closest juice bar to Scott’s Addition is North End Juice Co on Cleveland St in the Fan. If you know anything about this development, drop us a message. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more!
Richmond is about to get a little juicier with the addition of not one but two Canasta’s Chicken opening up! The first will be located in the Stratford Hills Shopping Plaza near Publix on Forest Hill Ave. If you live in the West End, don’t fret! There is also a Canasta’s Chicken opening up on Broad Street across from West Broad Village. Peter Changs is moving down the road and Canasta’s will open in their former space. Not familiar with Canasta’s? They’re a local Peruvian restaurant with their flagship location on Laburnum Ave (so if you’re a city-dweller you can get in on the love too). Think whole-roasted chicken, rice and beans, yuca, salads, and bowls. Take a peek at the menu and be excited!
In more chicken news, The Cocky Rooster is opening soon in The Fan! “The restaurant will offer wings, tenders, a chicken sandwich and vegetarian wings” writes Mike Platania over at Richmond BizSense. It is located next to Three Monkeys on Main St. Catch the full article here. (Richmond BizSense)
The music lineup for Dominion Energy Riverrock was announced earlier this week! Have we mentioned Spring is our favorite season in Richmond? Spring marks the start of festival season, patios and rooftops open, the farmer’s markets start to really bloom, and the weather is reasonable. Can you believe it’s only 19 days away (but who’s counting)? Back to Riverrock, if you’re not familiar, this annual three-day event takes place on Brown’s Island and features live music, outdoor activities, dog and sport competitions, and of course tons of local food and drink. You can check out the music lineup here. Dominion Energy Riverrock is happening May 15-17.
Two longtime establishments are closing their doors this month. Comfort, located in Jackson Ward on Broad St, is officially closed after nearly two decades in business. You can help them drink the booze and bid on items inside the restaurant according to this article. Acacia Mid-town located on Cary Street in the Fan is also officially closed and they auctioned off several items yesterday. While it’s always exciting to see new spots open, it’s equally hard to say goodbye to some wonderful establishments that truly made an impact on the Richmond dining scene. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
