Ed 198: A Power Ranger Appearance, St. Patrick’s Day Plans, Trivia with a Jeopardy! Champ
Hi there! 👋
Spring is in the AIR, folks. Temps are in the 70s this week; buds are letting loose all over the city; and other buds are meeting up on rooftops, on patios, and at festivals. The new season officially starts the balmy party on Sunday, March 20, but she seems to be in the pregame mood now. We’ll take it.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves with all this endish-of-March talk. We’re in the thick of Women’s History Month, so it’s a great time to bend your ear about how you can celebrate: RVA Power Women 2022. Presented by Brown Edwards, this “inaugural award celebration of Richmond’s most notable businesswomen” highlights the River City’s baddest (but, like, you know — best), from C-suite execs to up-and-coming leaders. Know a particularly Beyoncé-y woman in biz? Nominate her here.
Another great way to celebrate? Read Verity by Colleen Hoover!
… Fine, that was a stretch of a segue, but it was the PERFECT way to remind you that the next RVAx Book Club meeting (where we’ll discuss Verity by Colleen Hoover) is Wednesday, March 23, at Cirrus Vodka.
All right, more fun things below. Arms and legs inside the ride at all times.

THE LATEST:
THE STARS HAVE ALIGNED
Women about town: While “many Richmond cultural institutions still provide no special programming around Women’s History Month,” the Virginia Museum of History & Culture and Maymont are in full-on celebration mode. On Thursday, March 10, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture hosted a live stream of Gayle Jessup White’s lecture on her book, Reclamation: Sally Hemings, Thomas Jefferson, and a Descendant’s Search for Her Family’s Lasting Legacy. On Friday, March 25, Maymont will present The Vote, “a free virtual program featuring a dramatized fictional conversation among four influential Richmond women: Sallie May Dooley, Nora Houston, Ora Brown Stokes Perry, and Maggie L. Walker. (Style Weekly)
Earth to Richmonders: GalaxyCon returns to the Greater Richmond Convention Center at the end of this week — Friday, March 18, through Sunday, March 20. This three-day festival will host stars like Jenna Coleman, Antony Starr, Giancarlo Esposito, William Shatner, and even a Power Ranger. (*furiously researches the current and upcoming whereabouts of Kimberly Hart*) The convention center will also be filled with vendors selling handmade jewelry, collectibles, T-shirts, comic books (of course), and more. (Richmond magazine)
Live Loud — LOVE: Brown’s Island will be the setting for a new outdoor concert series, starting next month and playing through October. Participating acts will be announced in the coming weeks, but so far, we can say for certain that Live Loud Concerts (sponsored by The Broadberry) will showcase a host of diverse musicians, including indie rock band Bright Eyes and instrumental electronic jam band Lotus, and the shows will be accompanied by beer vendors and food trucks. (Style Weekly)
Who is Austin Rogers?: The 12-time Jeopardy! champion (who’s won more than $400,000 on the game show) is coming to Sam Miller’s on Thursday, March 24, to host trivia and promote his new book, The Ultimate Book of Pub Trivia by the Smartest Guy in the Bar. Tickets to the event (sponsored by Fountain Bookstore) are $20 with code RVAX and include a copy of the book plus entry for you and a guest. (Fountain Bookstore)
These Spiders are killer: The University of Richmond Spiders clinched the Atlantic 10 Championship, winning against the top-seed Davidson College Wildcats on Sunday and securing their tenth trip to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The team plays its next game this Thursday, March 17, against the Iowa Hawkeyes. And b-t-dubs, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that Virginia Tech also had a stellar weekend; the Hokies beat the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, scoring the university’s first ACC Men’s Basketball Championship. They play again this Friday, March 18. (University of Richmond, Hokie Sports)
