Hi, everyone! 👋

How’s your week going? We still can’t get over last weekend’s breezy, beautiful weather, and we very well may ride that high through to this weekend. Feelin’ like fresh, all-new women over here, dang!

Speaking of fresh, did you catch our social media manager, Paige, with the RVAx team updates on Insta earlier this week? Now that she and I (It’s me! Kelsey!) are situated in our new roles, we thought it made sense to reintroduce our li’l team and what we’re all about at The Richmond Experience. ICYMI: Head to our page and catch yourself up!

And then consider following us on TikTok. Maybe even jam with us on Spotify. Just, like, really make sure you’re getting the full Experience, you know?

Now, before we move along to this week’s happenings, social news, and then some — if we’re gonna talk about us, we gotta talk about you: The Richmond Experience donates a portion of each annual membership purchased to rotating nonprofits every month, and ART 180 was on the calendar for our May donation. Because of you, our members, we were able to support local artists, writers, musicians, poets, dancers, and everyday people working to create change through art. THANK YOU!

All righty, the aforementioned happenings, social news, and then some, comin’ atcha:

RICHMONDER TO KNOW

Emily Lehmann: She’s the Assistant Vice President of Day and Respite Services at SOAR365, having dedicated more than 20 years to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families — from volunteering for a summer camp program in high school to working as a special education teacher to spending 10 years (and counting) with the Richmond nonprofit org.

THE LATEST:

STAYCATION, BUILDING & MEAL PLANS

Staying inn: A new bed and breakfast just opened its doors in the Fan. The Boulevard Inn, built in 1914, blends historical charm with modern design, offering you the best of Richmond architecture, whether you’re looking for a spot to host out-of-towners or planning a staycation yourself. The spot also boasts luxurious amenities, including a daily gourmet, European-inspired breakfast and wine-and-cheese happy hours. (Instagram)

This is juicy: Village Garden and Barboursville Vineyards are joining forces to bring Summer, Supper, Somm back to town. Over the course of seven weeks — now through August — the event will be serving up “the best heirloom tomatoes” and a variety of Virginia wines at restaurants all over the River City. (Instagram)

In the mood for BBQ: Thrillist recently released its list of "The 57 American Barbecue Joints You Need to Visit Right Now," and ZZQ made the cut. Not that we're surprised or that we really need an excuse to head over there, but we figured this was as good a reason as any to celebrate with some drool-worthy eats (and wanted to recommend you do so, too). A couple highlights of the online mag's praises: "Richmond's ZZQ is the real deal," serving "some of the best brisket you'll find outside its boundaries." (Thrillist)

Hammers and ales: Richmond ToolBank, a nonprofit that lends tools to orgs building up RVA (literally), is hosting Hammers and Ales this Saturday, June 11. The community celebration of the city's "parks, public places, and the people that make them thrive" will take place on Brown's Island. Get together with other helpful folks of Richmond and help build new park benches, picnic tables, and trash huts for the James River Park System. The event will also offer live music, games, educational activities, outreach with local environmental organizations, and brews from Väsen Brewing. (Richmond ToolBank)

Where to get your Greek and Italian food fix this month: After nearly 60 years as a Richmond staple, the Robin Inn plans to close its doors on Saturday, June 18. Owner Niki Loupassi is the daughter of the spot's original owners, Carol and Manuel Loupassi, and having spent much of her life at the beloved family restaurant, she's ready to retire and move on to her next chapter. Make sure you head over sometime soon to enjoy the delish fare one last time (or several last times). (Richmond BizSense)

South by Southeast: The Fan’s former Roxy Cafe will now be home to a new spot from former owners at Beauvine Burger Concept and Fuzzy Cactus. “Get Tight Lounge will serve Baltimore-style pit beef barbecue and house beer by a local brewery as well as myriad mixed drinks, while out back it’ll have an outdoor stage hosting everything from live music to Texas two-step dance lessons.” (Richmond BizSense)
