Ed 218: Local Jewelry Must-Haves, Happy Hour in Richmond Every Day, Football Season Pregaming
A belated rabbit rabbit, folks! 👋
It’s a new month, and we’re equal parts stunned at how quickly August arrived and excited for what these last sevenish weeks of summer have in store for us. (Slightly cooler weather? Please? Like, please.)
On our end, we’ve got a fresh Music Roundup ready for you, a new Trendspotter in the works, and plans for our next RVAx Member Happy Hour on the books. (V excited for that last one, in partic. Save the date for August 17, and keep your eyes peeled for an inbox invite here soon.)
So, let’s get a move on, shall we? August can slip away into a moment in time, as Taylor Swift warned us. (Has anyone been tallying my (Kelsey’s) TS references, by the way? Have I hit my max for the year?)
Anyway, here’s the scoop for this first week of the month:
WEATHER
Wednesday: Afternoon thunderstorms; high of 88°, low of 70°
Thursday: Mostly sunny; high of 85°, low of 68°
Friday: Partly cloudy; high of 85°, low of 65°

Wednesday, 5 - 9 pm: Wednesdays Alfresco
Thursday, 3 - 9 pm: 804 DAY - Celebrate RVA @ Buskey Cider

RICHMONDER TO KNOW
Nick DeRosa: He’s the owner of Nine Roses, a fine-jewelry design studio in Richmond (and we do mean fine jewelry *drool*). Nick grew up near the beach, collecting shark teeth and seashells, which eventually led to him collecting more precious materials and his love of creating heirloom-worthy jewelry.

THE LATEST:
SWEET NEWS, SEPTEMBER NEWS & SNIFFING NEWS
Watermelon sugar ʰᶦᵍʰ: The official countdown to this year’s Carytown Watermelon Festival is on. Head to Carytown – lol, where else? – on Saturday, August 14, for the event’s 40th celebration, featuring 80 musicians, more than 100 vendors, and, of course, lots of watermelon. (Carytown Watermelon Festival)
Waiting all year for Thursday/Sunday/Monday night: Football fans, rejoice. Yes, it’s supposed to be in the 90s all week, but football season is on the horizon. And the newly-renamed Washington Commanders are celebrating with a rally at the end of this month. Head to River City Roll on Friday, August 26, and enjoy a live band and DJ, a kid zone, giveaways, a pop-up Commanders team store, and the opp to meet current and former Washington players, including Jonathan Allen, Terry McLaurin, Logan Thomas, Carson Wentz, Ron Rivera, and Vernon Davis. The event is free, but make sure you RSVP to stay in the loop on deets as we get closer to party time. (Washington Commanders)
Whisk into Henrico this September: Billy Bryan took over Whisk earlier this year, and now he’s got plans to expand the delish Shockoe Bottom-based bakery into a Henrico County location by the end of this summer. “In addition to Whisk’s lineup of coffee and baked goods like croissants and cakes, the new cafe will feature an expanded sandwiches menu and more drink offerings and market items in addition to salads.” Make plans to head to the new location at 8308 Staples Mill Rd on Labor Day weekend. (Richmond BizSense)
An indoor wonderland: If you, like us, have been driving by that billboard on 95 for months and wondering, What IS The Park at RVA?, wonder no more. The Park at RVA is “a multi-entertainment venue that’s filling 55,000 square feet of space in the Michael & Son complex at 1407 Cummings Dr.” The massive spot will feature a food hall, multiple bars, a bowling alley, and much more, and the group behind the project’s construction hopes to have it complete by this fall. (Richmond BizSense)
We think this news is on the nose for you: Sniffspot is a new (to us, at least!) site that offers safe and private dog parks hosted by locals for you to rent out with your pup. One of our readers recently filled us in (thanks, Alyssa C!) and recommended this spot and this spot as some of the best in the Richmond area. She also hosts her own (this spot), so get to perusing and book some outdoor QT with your doggo this week. And by the way, we love hearing from you, so if you’ve got a scoop on something that you think we should feature in the newsletter (or elsewhere), definitely let us know! (Sniffspot)
