Ed 220: Under-the-Radar Wedding Venues, National Dog Day, Wednesday Happy Hour Plans
Powered by Virginia Museum of History & Culture — drink in the new Cheers, Virginia! exhibition and explore how craft makers have used their talent and enthusiasm to connect with and represent the people, places, and history of the Commonwealth.
Happy Wednesday, folks!👋
We don’t want to make this awkward, but — you’ve RSVP’d for tonight’s happy hour, right? Come on; the link’s right here! You’re a member, so your first round’s on us, and you can bring a friend, and Triple Crossing serves that fire (in more ways than one) Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza, and we’ve added new Lizzo to the party playlist. See you there?
Now, in other “Things You Should Add to Your To-Do List” news, you might’ve seen on Insta that our very own Paige Poprocky plans to go Over the Edge for the Richmond SPCA next month. Yes, we’re already sweating on her behalf, but if this sounds like your kind of thing, it’s a great way to raise money for our community’s animals in need, and we’d be happy (?) to sweat on your behalf, too. Check out all the info here.
And in other-other “Things You Should Add to Your To-Do List” news: Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including coffee roaster expansion plans, VA ComiCon deets, a flower farm tour opp, and more.

Draw up your plan for this ahead of time: VA ComiCon is coming to the Richmond Raceway this Saturday, August 20, for its 37th year. And unlike years past, you can only get tickets ahead of time – so consider clicking that Add to Cart button now, if you’re interested. Think 6,000 square feet of artists, comics, toys, and costumes. (VA ComiCon)
The dog days of August: Ruff Canine Club and the Richmond Animal League have big pup-party plans next weekend. On Saturday, August 26, head to Ruff for the National Dog Day Paw-ty, featuring free caricature drawings, free treats (for the first 50 guests), and Dogfish Head drink specials and giveaways. Then on Sunday, August 27, bring your doggos out to the RAL Block Party, featuring live music, food trucks, adoptable pets, vendors, and more. (Instagram, Instagram)
Fun on the farm: River City Flower Exchange is collabing with Prospect Hill Flower Farm to host a farm tour on Saturday, September 10. “Participants will have a chance to see Prospect Hill Flower Farms' operations, including their high tunnel structures and highlighting how they grow their primary fall bloom, dahlias!” Tickets are 30 bucks, and you can buy yours here. (Instagram)
In this week’s beer news: Intermission Beer Company plans to add wine and cider to its menu. The spot’s beverages are brewed in-house, but the owner finds that many customers come in looking for something else thirst-quenching. And speaking of cold ones, Hardywood West Creek recently hosted the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild’s Craft Beer Cup, and 11 local breweries earned a combined 18 medals. Cheers to all of this! Hot off the (coffee) press: Richmond has some of the best coffee opts around, and lucky for us, one of them is moving into an even bigger roasting space. Lakeside coffee roaster, Reviresco Coffee Co. has plans to move from its current 500-square-foot spot to a 1,200-square-foot spot near the Museum District. This new home will make room for “the company’s roasting operations (which will occupy about half of the space) as well as a tasting room, retail sales and takeout coffee service.” (Richmond BizSense)
An in-cider scoop: The beautiful, cobblestone-y building in Scott’s Addition that houses delicious Blue Bee Cider is up for sale. The spot hit the market last week, as the owner looks to make more time for family. You can still get your cider fix there in the meantime (and maybe into the future), as exact future plans for the space are to be determined. “‘I’m hoping to find a buyer who’ll love and appreciate it as much as I do,’ Mailey said of the property. ‘We’re just trying to find the right match. Once the building finds the right owner, we’ll start to think about the cidery.’” (Richmond BizSense)
