Ed 230: Black Readers Con, Halloween Plans, Richmond Restaurant Week
Happy almost-Halloweekend!👋
Yet again, the month flew right by. We can’t believe we’re approaching Halloween already — we’ve barely gotten our fall fix! BUT the good news is we’ve still got a couple months to pack some more autumn in, so we’re square.
All that said, let’s cut to the chase: If you haven’t made plans for this weekend or Monday, now’s the time, and you’ve got lots of options. Costumes on, ghosts and ghouls; our Spooky Szn days are numbered.
Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including a local parenting advice app, more ways to get your spooky on, where to snag a lobster roll, and more.
THINGS WE’RE *WAY* LOVING THIS MONTH
It’s the end of another month, so here’s the low-down on a few of our favorite things for October!
Sam:
L and M Comfort Leggings with Pockets: I've been wearing L and M leggings for four years now, and I keep coming back for more. I have Lululemon leggings — which, IMO, do not offer quite enough shaping — and Spanx — extreme shaping, so not always the most comfortable. That said, I reach for my L and M leggings THE MOST. The fabric is soft, it's not at all see-through, they don't attract nearly as much lint and dog hair as other brands, and they have the perfect balance of shaping and comfort. AND NOW THEY HAVE POCKETS! I can also wear them for a full three seasons before I feel like they need to be replaced. I've already ordered a second pair with pockets. Try them, and thank me later.
Paige:
Maymont’s Garden Glow: I have visited Garden Glow not once, but twice this season! You have a few more opportunities to see the Japanese Garden transformed into a magical experience. The lights are truly breathtaking, and you’ll love walking around and taking in the sights.
Pumpkin Painkiller from Virago Spirits: Move over PSL. I’m a big fan of craft cocktails, and the team at Virago Spirits always blows me away with their seasonal lineup. The Pumpkin Painkiller will give you your pumpkin spice fix and have you feeling fine!
Kelsey:
Erma Jean shackets: We recently did an Erma Jean giveaway in one of our editions of the Insider, and then I promptly did some online shopping myself. Their shackets are so cute, and I truly needed to take a long, hard look before I knew which one to snag. But I ultimately went with the Jordan Shacket. And I haven’t taken it off all season.
