Hey, everyone!👋

Is the first cut really the deepest? And by the first cut, I mean the first week back from vaca 😂 Like last week was crazy, but are we sure the second week isn’t, like, a little worse? Follow me here for a minute… last week it was all, “Hey, I hope you had a good holiday” and “I’m just circling back on that thing.” This week it’s like, oh yeah, I actually have to do that thing, and let’s launch into five other things because it’s a new year, and we are going to hit the ground running on all these goals we have.

Anyone else? 😅 I can’t be the only one, guys. If you’re looking for me for the rest of the week, I’ll be trying to get the proper amount of rest, drinking water, and bopping all around Spotify as I tackle my to-do list in the most zen way possible. I hope you’re doing the same!

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including the latest on Veil Brewing’s new taproom (and restaurant!), the new coworking space opening in Church Hill, a few applications to consider, and more.

SOCIAL NEWS

Cheers to more space: This week, The Veil Brewing officially announced its new flagship taproom located at 1509 Belleville St., a few blocks from its original taproom, which will close to the public once the new space opens. At 8,262 sq ft, the new taproom will be triple the size of its current spot. Veil will expand their offerings to include beer, wine, cider, and spirits, along with a brand-new in-house food concept. Look for this to open in the spring; TBD on the specific opening date. (The Veil Brewing)

What is Nokoribi: The name of the forthcoming Japanese pub opening inside the new Veil Brewing Taproom from the chef/owners behind Longoven. The concept is a yakitori-inspired eatery so expect to find seasoned skewered meats grilled over a charcoal fire and served with various accouterments along with katsu sandwiches, kimchi fries, seasonal pickles, and more. The Veil team suggests the concept will focus on “…high quality, affordable pricing, and approachability for the whole family.” (Instagram)

In the meantime: You can get your Asian food fix at Main St. Dragon, the new concept from the owner of Sushi-O opening in the former Foo Dog space. The menu highlights Asian street food, including fried dumplings, Thai mussels, pork belly sliders, ramen, kimchi fried rice, and noodles. Their doors should be opening any day now. (Facebook)

Coworking in Church Hill: The residents of Church Hill will soon have a neighborhood coworking space at CoFlow. This new spot is situated in the same circle as Sub Rosa Bakery and The Roosevelt, so we can agree the location is stellar. A CoFlow Flex membership offers coworking one day per week or four days per month at $98 for those who pledge to walk or bike and $120 for all other commuters. A Dedicated Desk Membership will run you $385 per month with 24/7 access. If you’re interested in going with the flow, find more deets here(Instagram)

Coffee shop status: it’s complicated. This felt a little like watching a relationship break up and get back together again over social media, but we totally ‘ship it, and we think you will too. Here’s the scoop — a few months back, Alchemy Coffee Lab announced plans to convert the shop into an employee cooperative. Then they suddenly announced plans to close entirely as evidently there was some trouble securing a banking partner to help with the transition. Folks (us included) were devastated to hear this news. Not 24 hours later, we hear Bobby Kruger, owner of Brambly Park, stepped up to take over the shop, operations, and staff. His commitment is pending approval by VCU Arts, so it may not be a done deal, but we really do hope it works out for the best. (Instagram

Oh no, they didn’t: Did the Chamber of Commerce really name Richmond the loneliest city in America for women? THEY DID. Evidently, 28% of women in RVA reported living alone, which qualifies them as lonely. WHAT!? As Karri Peifer over at Axios Richmond so eloquently clapped back, “it's called female empowerment, better pay equity, delaying marriage and mind your business. And with nearly 30% of Richmond women in that category — the highest in the country — there ain't nothing lonely about that.” Amen, sis. (Axios Richmond)
