Hello, April *and* RVAx mems!

Have you heard of Noosh? My husband sent me this Reel created by some talented, snack-making, student entrepreneurs from University of Richmond, and let’s just say I have plans to stop by my nearest Noosh supplier ASAP to snag a jar (or five) for my spring picnic basket.

As the taste-makers themselves describe it, Noosh is a savory and smooth take on a classic, but make no mistake: “This isn’t your baba’s ol’ ganoush.” The eggplant dip and spread features smoky, smooth, citrus-y flavors and a kick of spice, making it the perfect pairing to veggies, burgers, sammies, and more. Find it at 12 Richmond-area shops and get to snackin’ and lip-smackin’ already.

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including new plans for The Jungle Room, Pharrell films in Richmond, Legend Brewing Co. for sale, and more.

SOCIAL NEWS

What’s the plan?: The folks behind Lost Letter and Lillian Oyster Hall are at it again. A vacant building at 1616 Summit Ave — originally reserved for a towering condo space — is getting life through a new concept. It’s unclear what the restaurateurs are planning for the 0.1-acre plot, but if it’s anything like their northern-Italy spot or seafood-tower go-to, we’ll be there for the grand opening. (Richmond BizSense)

Nooo! GOD! No, God, please, no! No! No! Nooooooo!: Legend Brewing Co. put its space up for sale. The future of Richmond’s oldest brewery (here since 2011!) is unknown, but the primo real estate is marketed as a mixed use opp. Catch us stocking up on Lagers, Bavarian Pretzels, and incredible views until (TBD) closing day. (Richmond BizSense)

Kick it up a notch: The second phase of upgrades to the Richmond Kickers stadium is underway. In 2020, City Stadium debuted its first round of improvements, and as the 2024 season continues, players and fans alike can look forward to the installation of a new 65-feet by 35-feet video scoreboard, which will sit about 40 feet closer to the field than the current one does. Stay tuned this summer for that and a renovated press box, improved main concourse and parking lot, and mini-fields and Futsal courts. And in the meantime, the Roos play Central Valley Fuego this Saturday, April 6, at 6 pm. (Richmond BizSense)

NPRichmond: Block party szn is upon us, and Woodland Heights is getting in on the action. Taking a page out of NPR’s book for Tiny Desk Concerts, the neighborhood brought about Tiny Porch Concerts in recent years, and the musical mingling is set to begin again in June. They’ll be held once a month through October, so save the dates on your cal now! (Instagram)

Clap along if you know what happiness is to you: For us, it’s Pharrell Williams hanging out in our neck of the woods. The extremely talented record producer and singer-songwriter (and absolute smokeshow, if we do say so ourselves) is working on a musical film about his childhood in Virginia Beach, and the project team is setting the stage for filming in Richmond. Michel Gondry, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliot, Andre 3000, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. are said to be part of the project, too. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

It’s no laughing matter: April Fools’ Day was foolsing on Monday (no, YOU almost included the announcement about The Jasper’s new rooftop in this week’s Insider), but jokes aside, LOSO is opening this weekend in the former The Jungle Room space. Fear not: While the popular disco-ball-included bar is shutting down, the city’s underground dance music scene will remain alive and well with this revamped spot’s sound system, enhanced dance floor lighting, and stacked DJ line-up.  (Instagram)
