Hi there!

How’re your peepers after all that solar eclipse celebrating? What a way to pregame Earth Day, too, huh? It was a beautiful afternoon for a rare celestial event, and I was loving the collective pause everyone seemed to be taking to observe Mother Nature do her thing. We should do that again! This weekend’s forecast is giving SPRING, so maybe do some more head-to-the-sky basking then?

Speaking of Earth Day, Mother Nature, and ~stellar~ things happening in Richmond, our friends at Top Stitch Mending reached out to tell us about their upcoming event, Top Stitch + Friends. The planet-pampering party features seven local eco-friendly businesses offering their eco-friendly services, so stop by this Saturday, April 13, and do your part to show our environment some TLC.

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including what condiment you should try on your pizza, a spot for investment jewelry, how to learn tips from Robert Beatty, and more.

RICHMONDER TO KNOW

Natalie Moore: She’s the owner of one of our absolute favorite Richmond spots, Ruff Canine Club. The River City’s first and only dog bar(k) offers the perfect space for you to get your pup’s energy out while you socialize with other dog owners over a drink or two. National Pet Day is this Thursday, April 11, BTW — a visit to Ruff Canine Club with your furry friend could be a great way to celebrate. The spot offers annual, monthly, and daily pass options!

SOCIAL NEWS

She’s like a rainbow: The Glass Ceiling is now open! Owner Erin Brown set up shop in the Fan, and her new biz offers space for (beginner-friendly) stained glass workshops — there are two happening for Mother’s Day, BTW! — and shopping her own artwork by appointment. Take a look at the courses, and get some time on your cal to learn fusing techniques and lots more. (The Glass Ceiling)

Good times on a loop: Metro Richmond Zoo recently opened its Lemur Loop expansion. The new section of the park cares for three species of lemurs — red, black, and white ruffed lemurs — throughout 1,000 feet of habitat space. There, you can also catch glimpses of ostriches, tapirs, monkeys, and dozens of other animals. You may even see the newborn ring-tailed lemur twins, who were born in March. Plan a visit, and look out for three other exhibits coming in the future. (Press Release)

Jewels for years: There’s a new local jeweler to shop. Vela Jewels Co, founded by local Corey Sham, is online-only and focuses on investment jewelry. Her pieces are all pre-made or custom-made — in Hong Kong — of 18-karat gold and feature natural gemstones. And if you own a piece of jewelry you’d like to have repurposed, Corey offers a trade-in program to further promote her sustainability mission. (Richmond News)

Coming to a theater near you: Byrd Theatre hosts the second annual Richmond Animation Festival at the end of this month, and according to RVA Mag, it’s a must-attend event. This year, the festival will feature a series of international short films and a Q&A with Robert Beatty. Whether you’re a seasoned animator or new to the world, this event is meant for you; the creators of Richmond Animation Festival “have curated an experience that’s not just about watching films but engaging Richmond’s growing animation community.” (RVA Mag)

Hit the trail: Sunday, April 7, marked National Beer Day, and to celebrate, Richmond Region Tourism launched its mobile passport beer trail program — a relaunch of sorts of its original paper beer trail program. Beer lovers can check in with their mobile passports at five or more participating breweries on the beer trail, then earn merch. Points reset after 30 days, FYI. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Add this to your pantry staples: There’s been a lot of chili crunch noise in the news, but there’s an (unrelated but weirdly coincidental) update to celebrate — Sijang is set to have its Garlic Chili Crunch product on shelves in local brick-and-mortar shops. The condiment, created by a Chesterfield-based husband-and-wife team, features an oil base mixed with onion, garlic, sesame seeds, and Mexican chilies. Add it to pizza, soup, eggs, rice, and more. And look  for a line of sauces and other new mouth-watering things from the duo later this year, too. (Richmond BizSense)

Start practicing your autograph: Last week, we mentioned that heartthrob Pharrell Williams (he’s just SO good-lookin’, okay?!) is getting set to film his musical movie in Richmond soon, and there’s more news where that came from this week (it appears, at least). CDC Extras Casting is filling roles for piano players, singers, stand-ins, and such on an “untitled movie musical shooting in Richmond, Virginia.” (Facebook)
