Happy Fourth of July week!

Yes, America is… going through it right now, but if you, too, could use a break from the loud F*CK! looping in your head with every funny-but-still-scary debate bit that’s going around, take this Thursday to focus on some other big Fs instead: franks, fireworks, and fun!

Main Line Brewery is one of my fave spots to go for Independence Day. They’ve got delish drinks (Misty Mountain Hop for me, pls!), food trucks, live music, plenty of space for you to spread out, and you get a great view of The Diamond’s fireworks. Peep everything else they’ll be doing for the holiday week, and wave if you see me there!

But no matter what festive happenings you get into, for the love of God, put it in reverse after you light things up, okay? STAY SAFE.

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including a grill and bar coming to Bon Air, a new summer concert series, where to get BBQ next, and more.

RICHMONDER TO KNOW

Patrick Griffin: He’s the founder and owner of RVA Paddlesports. In April 2014, Patrick actually started RVA Paddlesports with just six kayaks that he stored in the back of his apartment. In the 10+ years since, he’s added dozens of kayaks, rafts, canoes, paddleboards, and even climbing equipment to his inventory, in addition to building a growing team of staff members with decades upon decades of paddling experience.

SOCIAL NEWS

Richmond lost an icon last week: Stella Dikos, who blessed us all with Stella’s, passed away. The restaurant posted a touching tribute to her impact that majorly tugged at our heart strings: “Her warmth, creativity, and passion for food have touched so many lives here in Richmond and beyond. Stella’s legacy lives on through the delicious recipes and the love she poured into every dish.” You can say that again and again. Her team plans to post info about Stella’s memorial service soon, and in the meantime, consider honoring her with dinner at the Greek spot itself or from one of its many markets around the city. This one’s for the vegans: Or the non-vegans who just like what the vegans have goin’ on! Lauren Z Ray introduced Vegan Club RVA late last week. The club will feature free and ticketed events, highlighting vegan spots and to-dos around town. Its first is a Carytown Vegan Food Tour, for which attendees will get together for an afternoon of eating delicious food from Tiny Vegan Food Cart, Minglewood Bake Shop, Pho Luca’s, Zorch, and Lolita’s. Keep your eyes on social media for more info on upcoming events. (Instagram)

Forever summer: One of our favorite (and newer!) festivals is back this year; July 27 will welcome The Veil Brewing Co.'s Forever Summer Fest to Richmond again. Tickets include a tasting glass and a three-ounce sip of each beer from the 45+ participating breweries. Even better, proceeds from the event benefit ChildSavers, a local org whose mission is to safeguard the emotional health of our community’s youngest residents. (The Veil Brewing Co.)

Where to get BBQ next: The Original Ronnie’s BBQ, “where the secret ingredient is the love,” recently won the Best Chef award at the Six in the City: A Southern BBQ Experience in Chicago. Richmond Region Tourism has participated in the event for four years and partnered with the BBQ spot this time around, bringing home the top spot for the first time ever. (Henrico Citizen)

Updated Bon Air guide incoming: The folks behind Tazza Kitchen and Conejo have a new concept in the works. Coming to Bon Air in early 2025 is The Granite Grill & Bar. The spot promises comfortable booths, an energetic bar, and a year-round patio, according to its initial Insta rumblings, and Richmond Times-Dispatch reports we can expect a menu of smash burgers, salads, grilled seafood and steaks, as well as cocktails, beers, and wine. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

More free live music to go around: PopUp RVA will now host a new lineup of local music, vendors, food, drinks, games, and more in the “Red Lot” at the Richmond Flying Squirrels stadium. The event typically happens every Saturday between April and October, but now it will feature live music along with its other offerings, which is all the more reason to add it to your summer (or fall) bucket list. There’s no cost to attend, *and* there’s plenty of free parking on site. (RVAHub)
