Hello there!

Okay, first things first: As you may know, annually, we donate a percentage of every business partnership (see: each paid marketing campaign that we coordinate with a local company) to Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity to help our neighbors secure safe, affordable housing while providing resources to prepare them for successful homeownership.

We continue to donate to other important causes in our community, too! A portion of every annual RVAx membership purchased goes to rotating nonprofits each month. We’re gearing up to finalize our list of nonprofit donations for the rest of 2024 and the start of 2025, and we want your suggestions! Do you have a nonprofit org you’d like us to consider donating to? Enter this edition’s Weekly Giveaway and let us know!

Now, next things next: Did you have a good long weekend? Did you get plenty of partying in? Do you feel relaxed and refreshed?

GOOD, because we’ve got your *next* party plans on deck. Here’s your invite to our launch party for our new podcast, The Chatter 🎙️🚀🥳 Come celebrate with us at Byrdhouse next Thurs, and start Friday Eve with a bang! There’ll be eats, drinks, a DJ, entertainment, pretty views — so much chic-ness, you’ll practically feel like Kendall Jenner at the Louvre (but, like, please wear your shoes). See you there?

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including a new ice rink, a book rec, a Charlottesville staple coming to town, and more.

SOCIAL NEWS

Picture the wind in your hair: Here’s a new way to see the city — rent a Polaris Slingshot! RVA Hot Wheelz showed up in our Explore page recently, and we were all, Our readers would love this! So, here are the deets, readers! This local, family-owned roadster rental company offers a fleet of brand-new automatic 2022 Polaris Slingshots for customers to rent for as little as 75 bucks. The team over there provides step-by-step instructions for how to safely drive them around town, so no worries if you’re new to the experience or need a refresher. (Instagram)

Add this to your kiddos’ TBR piles: We love a good read here at The Richmond Experience (S/O, Book Club!), so when we saw another Richmonder was putting a book on shelves near us, we were all about it. Hank Thornhill’s Friends of the Great Outdoors follows Pop-Pop, Monty, George, and Rui as they explore nature and find treasure along the way. Says its publisher, “Friends of the Great Outdoors inspires us all to get outside — to look, listen, and explore the natural world with curiosity. By the end, you too will be a better friend of the great outdoors.” (Blue Balloon Books)

Let’s fast-forward to 300 takeout coffees later: When we will have, inevitably, fallen in love with Daily Coffee Co. The shop offers caffeine on wheels, serving coffee (from Recluse Roasting Project) and baked goods (from Shyndigz, Up All Night Bakery, and Montana Gold Bread Co) from its extremely adorable yellow truck. You may see it roaming around town, having already rolled through a few events in Church Hill, but there’s no fixed parking spot for it just yet. Keep tabs on its whereabouts at streetfoodfinder.com/DailyCoffeeCo and more on Insta @dailycoffeecompanyrva. (Richmond BizSense)

Speaking of caffeine: A beloved Charlottesville coffee roaster is preparing to open a new location in Jackson Ward. Mudhouse Coffee Roasters will open a cafe at 418 W Broad St next month. The couple-owned company led by John and Lynelle Lawrence already has three locations in C-ville as well as one in Crozet. This new Richmond space will serve coffee that the company roasts itself in Charlottesville and will also sell baked goods as well as bagel sandwiches. (Richmond BizSense)

Attn, do-gooders: The city has created the Richmond Civilian Review Board and wants dedicated Richmonders at its helm. The Board will include eight members who will each serve three-year terms, “reviewing, investigating, and making recommendations regarding specific internal investigations conducted by the Richmond Police Department,” reports RVA Mag. “This is a unique opportunity for community members to play a significant role in fostering transparency, trust, and accountability within the Richmond Police Department.” (RVA Mag)

Ice, ice, baby!: Chesterfield is getting an ice hockey facility. Plans for the spot include two NHL-sized rinks, and the folks backing the project hope to use the venue for hockey programs and clinics, figure skating, and youth hockey tournaments. They expect to build space for 800 spectator seats and 10 locker rooms, too, and they hope to start working on it later this year. (Richmond BizSense)

Ninja Kombucha Brewing Co

It’s the week after a big holiday, which means your bod *may* be in need of a factory reset. If you’re looking for something delish and particularly good for your gut, Ninja Kombucha is it. The brewer has won bronze at the Kombucha Kup and understandably so. It offers a variety of non-alcoholic and refreshing flavors, including Blackberry Hibiscus, Blueberry Lavender, Cranberry Lime Ginger, and Dry Hopped Lemon Ginger.
