Hi, everyone!

We’re inside a month from the start of fall, but that’s not slowing our summer plans down just yet. The Richmond Flying Squirrels reached out to see if we wanted to get one more FUNN member meetup on the cal this season, and we went nuts; OF COURSE we want to throw down at The Diamond again before things get all spooky, pumpkin-y, and more!

Let us take you out to the ball game on Thursday, September 5, once more, and then we’ll all take a nice, deep breath and REALLY head toward those reds, oranges, and yellows with open arms.

SOCIAL NEWS

More baked goods for us all: Ashley Patino, the brains behind Pizza Bones, is bringing a new concept to town. Julio’s Bagel Shop will open soon in the Northside area and feature naturally leavened, boiled, and baked bagels. ICYDK, Ashley has a long history as a profesh baker, so you can count on this new spot being just as delish as everything else she’s doled out in Richmond so far. (Julio’s Bagel Shop)

A toast to more Toast: Toast is but a few short weeks from opening its third location in the new Scott’s Walk development. The new-American gastropub features food items like Pimento Cheese Wontons, along with an entire menu for its Famous Weekend Brunch. The news had our team saying, “!!!” But what more IS there to say, really?! It’s all v !!! (Instagram)

In biz acquisition news: HOUSEpitality Family, who owns Island Shrimp Co, The Boathouse, and Casa Del Barco, bought Can Can Brasserie in Carytown. Here’s what owner Kevin Healy had to say about the purchase: “We are incredibly honored to welcome Can Can Brasserie into the HOUSEpitality Family[...]Can Can is such an iconic establishment that there isn’t much to change. Our goal is to preserve its unique charm while ensuring it continues to thrive. They already have a great team, many of whom have been there for years, as well as countless devoted regulars we will work to maintain and grow.” (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Peep this birth announcement: The Metro Richmond Zoo welcomed some new family members earlier this year. According to a recent press release from the org, two female snow leopards, Sasha and Kira, were born to parents Elsa and Nitro on April 28, after a three-month gestation period. “Sasha and Kira were born inside a private den where they spent their first few months bonding with Mom and growing stronger. At the beginning of August, they were old enough to begin exploring their outside habitat. Now, Elsa and her cubs can be viewed on exhibit (currently on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays), providing zoo guests with an educational opportunity to watch Snow leopard cubs grow.” (Metro Richmond Zoo)

Add Tarragon Chicken Salad to the menu this week: If our incessant fangirling over Christopher’s RunAway Gourmay hasn’t yet convinced you to visit the downtown staple, let Richmond mag’s recent write-up push the needle a little further; here’s how they set the scene: “Long before the food truck boom of the early 2000s, Christopher’s Runaway Gourmay drew crowds for its classic, unfussy lunchtime favorites. It’s been a mainstay of Main Street for nearly 40 years, thanks in no small part to its coveted tarragon chicken salad, simple pastas, marinated cukes and efficient, friendly service.” (Richmond magazine)
