Phew! It’s been a WEEK since we last caught up, huh? ICYMI, Paige and I are the new owners of The Richmond Experience 🥳 We wrote a bit about it here and talked a bit about it here, and we’re doing lots of work ~behind the scenes~ everywhere. So, stay tuned!
The weeks and months ahead are going to be FUN in our new digs, *but* right now, we’re kind of in that just-moved-in phase. Like, we got the keys and all, and the movers brought all our stuff over, but we’re still trying to figure out where that picture should go and what kind of couch to put there and how many house parties we should throw and when. You know?
All that to say, pardon our dust (lol) as we hammer out (loll) some site changes (lolll) over here for the future. We’re workin’ for you, babe(s)!

Now Upon a Time: We’re loving this new storytelling project from the folks at The Martin Agency. Now Upon a Time puts an updated spin on classic fairytales, centering modern, empowering messaging. As they put it, “Once upon a time, princesses were fickle and flighty. Those days are over.” The org just released Princess & the Pea-tition in book form, and there are more stories to enjoy online, including The Little Mermaid, Jacky & Jill, and then some.

This’ll cost us a pretty penne next year: Oro is bringing a brick-and-mortar to town. Coming to Church Hill early 2025, the spot for Italian deliciousness will offer that *and* an amaro-driven bar line-up, plus a warm environment to enjoy it all in. Get ready to have constant cravings for menu items like beet salad with bitter greens, blue-cheese mousse, eggplant Parmesan, and pork meatballs. (Instagram, Richmond magazine)
Cocktail hour(s) to follow: Second Bottle is hosting a new After Hours snack-and-sip series, and the first installment happens this Thursday, October 24. The cocktail-hour-style event will feature California winemaker Matthew Rorick of Forlorn Hope, taking attendees through a taste of the the four latest releases from the estate, each paired with a snack from Chef Matt Kirwan of Home Plate. Tix are $55. And while we’re on the topic of Second Bottle, the wine and snack shop now has merch! (Second Bottle)
Where to do your holiday shopping: Shop Made in VA opened in Scott’s Addition on Friday. The space is a hot spot for locally-crafted things, including threads, home goods, and more. Stop by to peruse the catalog of Richmond (and Virginia) makers, like Little Nomad, Absurd Snacks, Commonwealth Provisions, and more. Major tours, come thru: The in-progress riverfront amphitheater has officially been given a (new) name; Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront is set to open in June. The four-acre site, owned by Live Nation and Charlottesville-based Red Light Management (with a 10-year naming rights deal with Allianz), will boast 7,500 seats, three food-and-bev spots, and about 30 shows per season, which runs from spring through fall. Keep your ears open for the first line-up announcement soon. (Axios)
Your ticket to a sneak peek: Scotty’s Taphouse is bringing new life to the former Slingshot location. The new-and-improved biz, from the same owners as Southern Railway Taphouse, promises exciting renos, a full-service kitchen, live music, and diverse entertainment in Scott’s Addition. Head there this Saturday, October 26, for a free Halloween bash and sneak peek of the soon-to-be-open space. Food, drinks, and DJ spins abound! (Instagram, Axios)
Have a ball: Ruby Scoops had its grand re-opening on Saturday. The expanded tasting room (which now lives just a few doors down from the orig location) offers 16 rotating flavors at a time, homemade waffle cones, space for 50 seated guests, and an outdoor patio. You can also still enjoy six- or nine-scoop flights, *and* Sno Balls are available to order, too. (Instagram)
