SOCIAL NEWS

Now open inside the former Little Saint is Izzy’s Kitchen serving sandwiches, soup, and salad for lunch! Owner Joe Carter was previously a partner at F.W. Sullivans and Uptown Market and Deli, the latter which closed as Carter transitioned to open his own concept. You’ll find Uptown sandwiches on Izzy’s menu including the Cowboy (Roast beef, house bacon, sliced onion, tomato, provolone and house dressing on cracked wheat) and the Super Italian (capicola, prosciutto, salami cotto, pepperoni, provolone cheese on an artisan baguette) along with French Onion soup, a house salad, and hummus platter. For dinner, the restaurant is serving charcuterie boards and a simple menu including a steak of the day, fish of the day, a burger, and eggplant lasagna, for the most part. We’re drooling over their sandwiches and can’t wait to stop in. Add it to your list! (Richmond Mag)

So what’s happening to the former Uptown Deli & Market space? During a visit to the city’s permit department over the summer I overheard a gentleman working to secure a permit for a gelato shop in the Fan; naturally I had questions so we chatted for a bit and then we dropped a hint to RVAx members back in Ed 57. Enter: Moon Rocks Gelato. They’ll be serving gelato, shakes, and waffles until 2am Thursday through Saturday with standard hours on other days. Look for this to open within a few weeks. A new adventure park
opened this weekend offering four rope courses and 10 zip lines! Canopy is located in Midlothian and all-access tickets range from $35-$45. You can find out more info and make reservations here!

The highly anticipated and long-awaited Frontier by Alamo is officially open in Church Hill! This cozy spot is serving up rotisserie and barbecue in a more formal setting than it’s sister restaurant, Alamo BBQ. Most dishes will be prepared using a wood grill and rotisserie oven. Check it out at 412 N 25th St.!

Have you seen the renderings for the new Scott’s Addition Veil Brewing? Production will remain at their current site but the taproom is relocating to The Bellville, Richmond’s first food hall. The renderings show Veil’s signature black facade and minimal design with what appears to be a small balcony off to the side. No indication of what the inside might look like yet but we’re keeping a close eye!

This one is new-to-us news and we wanted to share because we love a good bagel and apparently, this is a very good bagel. Chewy’s Bagels is a microbakery popup offering bagels by the half dozen or dozen for pick-up at RVA Performance Training, a cross-fit studio just down the street for Hardywood. Order from an assortment of bagels by Wednesday for a Saturday pick-up or by Friday for a Monday pick-up. All you need to do is DM them on the ‘gram or shoot them an email. Keep an eye on their social for current flavors offered and popups. Over this past weekend they served bagel sandwiches at Recluse Coffee Bar and Roastery, a forthcoming coffee shop in Scott’s Addition.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION

The most haunted restaurant in Virginia according to Food Network is Helen’s! “Employees feel her [Helen’s] presence most frequently in the dining room’s booths or the dish room. Reports including seeing items in front of them disappear and reappear elsewhere, hearing whispers or knocks when no one else is around, faces in the dish room’s double doors and cold spots throughout. Many report hearing swing music—a nod to when Helen’s was a well-regarded juke and swing joint — or seeing apparitions in the late hours of the evening. Some skeptics on staff were recently converted to believers after a conversation about haunting provoked an extremely loud crashing sound; when they went to investigate, nothing was found” writes Layla Khoury-Hanold. You’ll have to go by and see for yourself…
