Hey there!

It’s nice to see you after taking a break last week. We hope everyone had a happy holiday and a great time ringing in the new year. If you had too good of a time last night, or you just woke up starved, we’ve got you covered so keep reading. If you were gifted a membership over the holidays, welcome! We’re here to help you experience so many good times in 2020.

Before we dive in, we wanted to share the total donations made to Habitat for Humanity during our give back night at the Starr Hill Beer Hall and Rooftop private event for RVAx members. We vouched to donate $1 for every member who attended the event and we are proud to announce RVAx will be donating $350 to Habitat for Humanity! Plus, for every pint sold after your first complimentary beer, Starr Hill donated $1 for an additional $110! This money goes directly towards material to continue building homes for families in need in our area. Thank you for being a part of this community!

So without further ado…

SOCIAL NEWS

Need brunch? Most spots around town reserve brunch for the weekends but today is an exception. We put together a quick list of spots helping you kick-off 2020 (and maybe curing your hangover). Enjoy!

Live your best life as you explore the newest exhibit at Reynolds Gallery, On Vacation. Created by Richmond-based artist Katie Barrie, “my work examines the aesthetics of leisure, the implications of good and bad taste, and what it means to live one’s best life. The idea of the beach or pool-side getaway is a relatively new concept, only practiced for a handful of generations. And yet, it is something most individuals fantasize about luxuriating in” says Barrie in a press statement. The exhibit opens January 10 and it might be a nice escape as the winter blues hit!

Mini golf is now available at Top Golf. In case regular golf is not really your thing, Top Golf now offers a mini golf course on premise and with 14-holes it’s pretty much a full game. If you’re like us, anyone can win. Play for just $8.50 per person (or $6.50 per child). You might want to wait for a warmer day or plan to bundle up, there are no heaters on this course.

If you’re starting Dry January, check out this list of our favorite mocktails around town.

Local food critics rounded up the Best in Class, Richmond’s top 25 restaurants in 2019, in Richmond Magazine and its a quick, fun read. In addition to superlatives like “Best Use of a Lazy Susan” and “Best at Being Effortlessly Cool” they give you insider tips and suggestions for what to order. How many have you been to on the list? (Richmond Magazine)

The Peedmont is a Virginia-based satirical news source and their headlines are always worth a laugh! A few weeks ago we asked members if they pronounce Burger Bach like “bock” or “batch” and the results were close to split. Turns out we’re not the only ones struggling as The Peedmont published this article. You can find more entertaining Richmond headlines here.

Things continue to move quickly
around Richmond and 2020 is no exception. If you follow business and development news then you’ll enjoy this article about things to keep an eye on over the next year including cannabis and the Navy Hill project. (Richmond BizSense)

NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Thrillist put together a list of Everywhere You Need to Eat and Drink in Richmond Right Now and it mostly consists of tried and true spots like Stella’s, Saison, and Perly’s. But one spot on the list, El Pope, is not as mainstream as the others and admittedly we still haven’t had a chance to get over there. Known for their pupusas, El Pope serves Latin-inspired cuisine and while their following is small, it is mighty. Anyone that has eaten here has nothing but positive things to say and they keep going back for more. Next time you’re craving a taco, skip your usual go-to spot and check out El Pope instead. Located in the Fan just down the street from Home Team Grill. (Thrillist)

10 beer scenes you should experience in 2020 by USA Today continues to recognize the beer scene here in Richmond. It’s no surprise as we always take out of town visitors to at least one brewery during their stay here. But we know you already know this so we’re linking this article in case you’re looking for an equally impressive beer scene while you travel in the new year. A few spots include Charleston, Rhode Island, Grand Rapids, and the Hawaiian Islands. (USA Today)
