Hey there!

Last week we asked members to share their goals for 2020 and we were overwhelmed by the response. THANK YOU for sharing your goals with us! Many are hoping to read more books, spend less time aimlessly scrolling, be more present, be more fit, run a race, and eat more vegetables. No matter which goals you set, we hope you accomplish them and if you need any resources or recommendations please do not hesitate to reach out. Good luck!

Now let’s dive in for this week. Brookland Park is seeing some exciting development and we’ve got a drool-worthy giveaway. Happy reading…

SOCIAL NEWS

The first non-toxic nail studio opened in Church Hill yesterday! Scorpio Rising is a full service nail bar located in the heart of Church Hill (501 N 25th St) providing manicures, full sets, gel extensions, pedicures, and nail art using products that are vegan and cruelty-free. While it’s the first of its kind to open on the hill, non-toxic nail studios are not new for Richmond. Other studios include Holy Chic + Co in The Fan, Atir Natural Nail Care on Cary St behind Pizza & Beer of Richmond, and Perception Organic Spa in Carytown. Check out Scorpio Rising Tuesday through Saturday!

Slay Burgers is opening in the Brookland Park neighborhood and alongside their juicy smash burgers they claim to have the best chicken sandwich ever. With several house made sauces, smash burgers, and hand cut fries, we are eagerly waiting for them to open! Some are even comparing the soon-to-open burger joint to the popular West Coast burger joint, In-and-Out. Keep an eye on their social for grand opening details!

Another exciting edition for Brookland Park will be the Brookland Park Market offering prepared meals and hot food! Aiming for a Union Market vibe, Richmond BizSense reports the owners are brothers who have lived in Richmond for the past 10 years and both live in the neighborhood. The retail side will start off small with plans to grow. Keep reading on here. (Richmond BizSense)

Carver is getting pizza from the team behind Cobra Cabana! Richmond Mag shared the story about Hot for Pizza slated to open in May. Look for New Haven (as in Connecticut) style pizza (thin and crispy with a chewy inside) and Greek-style pizza (heavier on the olive oil with unique toppings and generally a thinner sauce). According to Eileen, the slices will be huge so sign us up! (Richmond Mag)

Unfortunately pizza isn’t the only trending news for Cobra Cabana. According to this Instagram post, they are dealing with some serious issues.

Planning to run the Monument Ave 10k? The next price increase happens tomorrow, January 16 so register now to save money! This year the Monument Ave 10k will take place on Saturday, March 28. The schedule is doable for people of all abilities and the community and resources are outstanding. Good luck!

Lastly, the coast-to-coast Wienie Roast is headed for Richmond this Thursday and will be visiting local Kroger stores through next Wednesday! Track it down and find out more about photo ops here. (NBC 12)

NATIONAL

Charlotte, like Richmond, is experiencing a brewery boom and it turns out we’re not the only ones examining the impact. Katie Peralta of the Charlotte Agenda lays out some of the concerns alongside the benefits in an article titled “What’s with all of the eye-rolling over Charlotte’s brewery boom?.” It’s interesting to see a similar conversation happening in a city other than Richmond and I think Katie does a good job of putting the growth into perspective. If you have three minutes it’s worth a read.

Stella’s among top 100 places to eat in the US in 2020. Based on number of reviews and ratings, Yelp pulled together the most highly reviewed places around the country and our very own Stella’s made the list! If you have the chance, try to catch their happy hour Monday through Friday 4-6pm for a great deal on wine carafes and more. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
