Hiii!

This edition is going to be very podcast launch party coded — in one way, because we’ve got some more party favors to give away as you read on, but in another way, because my under-eye situation could be considered checked baggage rn. I’m a delighted, but exhausted, woman from that absolute BLAST we had with you last week, folks, so I’m keeping it short and sweet up top here this week. Come chit-chat some more with us tonight at book club, and make sure you’re caught up on the latest ep of The Chatter — a new one drops this Friday, and we’ve got LOTS to discuss then.

Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including a local bartender’s pick for the best gin, a massive new park in Henrico, the hot dog candle smelled ‘round the world, and more.

SOCIAL NEWS

Henrico County just celebrated its ribbon-cutting ceremony on Taylor Farm Park: The 99-acre space in Sandston offers nature-centered amenities, including mist mounds, an interactive play stream, an “all-wheel” park and more. Pack up the kids and plan for an all-day adventure; there’s a lot to scope out. (Henrico County)

A place on the river: Last year, the James River Association announced plans for the James A. Buzzard River Education Center, a new space situated on RVA’s historic riverfront (but of course), which would act as a center of activity for environmental education, “connecting students and the region with the river and advancing our vision of a fully healthy river supporting thriving communities.” The center’s namesake is a former JRA board chairman who advocated tirelessly for the James River and youth environmental education. And now the project is officially complete; the org celebrated its grand opening last week! (RVAHub)

For your bar cart: Earlier this week, Crescent Simples launched its three-pack gift sets. Snag a set of fan favorites (Blueberry Lavender, Lime Jalapeno, Strawberry Basil) or classics (Grenadine Syrup, Old Fashioned Syrup, Tonic Syrup), or both! The biz has each gift-set option available online and is working on getting them in a marketplace near you, so stay tuned for that development next. (Crescent Simples)

Drool incoming: We’re on our way out of July, which means you only have a few more days to catch up on The Trendspotter this month before we drop August’s edition of must-visit hot spots. We’ll give you a little taste of what’s to come, tho. bb.q Chicken opened recently in Carytown and it’s giving mouth-watering. The spot is your fast pass to Korean flavors, offering a spread of Korean Fried Chicken, K Food, and much more. (Instagram)

In Biden news: As you likely heard, Joe Biden has pulled out of the upcoming presidential race. That’s about as heavy-newsy as we like to get around here, but we did like reading through RTD’s roundup of Richmond voters’ reactions to the update, AND RVA Coffee Stain, as always, gave us something to smile about in an otherwise, say, bleak (?) time in our country’s history.
