Ed 349: Richmond Falcon Cam, Happy Hour Guide, Late-Night Cookie Delivery Service
Hello!
Before we really get going, might we suggest you first direct your attention to… the Richmond Falcon Cam?! My husband alerted me to this wildlife viewing opp, which has been a thing for years now but has only recently been having me say, about every few mins, “Wait, this is so cute!”
Per the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the cam “follows the breeding season of a peregrine falcon pair that nests in downtown Richmond, Virginia[…]atop the Riverfront Plaza building.” Like, on E Byrd St. How on-brand is that??
There’s a whole egg-laying sitch you can read more about via DWR, but most recently, the Richmond girlie falcon laid her third egg just last Sunday, March 23. Check in for more nest updates throughout the week. It’s all too wholesome! Especially during a time that otherwise feels very, you know, 👁️👄👁️

SOCIAL NEWS
Coaster fans, rejoice! Kings Dominion is celebrating its 50th anniversary in a big way with the grand opening of its newest roller coaster, Rapterra, this Saturday, March 29. The record-breaking structure is the tallest and longest launched wing coaster in the world, standing at 145 feet tall and stretching 3,086 feet long. Inspired by the mythical jungle hawk, Rapterra gives riders the chance to “fly” on either the left or right wing, with nothing above or below them. It launches from 0 to 65 mph in just four seconds, sending thrill-seekers on a 90-second trip, soaring through a series of intense maneuvers, including a dive loop, a 360-degree barrel roll, and a sideways wing slide. FWIW, Kelsey isn’t even a coaster fan, and Kings Dominion visits are one of her favorite summer pastimes. Snag park passes at kingsdominion.com, and hold on tight. (Press Release)

Sub Rosa Bakery’s owners shared an update on their rebuilding efforts following last fall’s devastating fire. Thanks to community support and donations, the sweet spot has been able to assist employees and begin funding the reconstruction process, with its (tentative) goal to reopen set for this November. Right now, they’re finalizing plans to start major construction — including framing and a new roof — by April. In addition to rebuilding, they’re taking this opp to upgrade key aspects of the bakery, including a new oven, improved front-of-house design, and a larger mixer to better serve their customers. While the bakery remains closed, they’re still milling flour at Triple Cross Brewery in Fulton Hill, which is available for sale at various Richmond locations, and they’re also planning more baking pop-ups and will be at Birdhouse Market on Tuesdays starting in May. Exciting news for Richmond's night owls with a sweet tooth! Cosmic Cookies, a new late-night cookie delivery service, is set to open next week in Scott's Addition. Baking out of Richmond Eats, a ghost kitchen on W Broad St, the spot will cater to those after-hours cravings with delivery and carryout options during evening and early-morning hours. Plan to add to your order things like the Black Hole Bliss, featuring dark-chocolate morsels and a marshmallow filling, alongside classic chocolate chip and sugar cookies. (Richmond BizSense)
There are glamping grounds in our midst. Kevin and Laura Wilson have plans for Camp Yellow Cardinal in the works, a 25-acre glamping destination in Prince Edward County — about an hourish from Richmond. As part of the more luxe outdoor experience, guests can expect geodesic domes equipped with king-size beds, kitchenettes, fire pits, hot tubs, and propane grills, all set atop spacious wooden decks. Additional amenities include a bathhouse with heated floors, a communal pavilion, a camp store, and walking paths connecting the sites. The biz owners are looking to start construction in late April and begin welcoming folks to stay by the end of the year. (Richmond BizSense)
